  1. Construction technologies exist to improve the productivity and workflows for the construction industry So integrating GPS positioning technology with sensors and hydraulic system and software enables us to create 3D models, and automate the processes and increasing the productivity.
  2. The digitalization in the construction industry is The process of moving to digital construction by utilizing the construciton techology the automation in the construction means that we convert the processes and tasks from human intervention to the automatic processes with less workforce and faster than usual which increase the productivity and reduce the time We can see that there are available solutions and technology for almost all construction process groups such as: Planning Execution Monitoring Controlling We also see the construction and the automation in the surveying and mapping, earthworks, paving and vertical constructions applications. But Ignoring digitization entirely is not one of the options NOW. Recent developments in construction and other branches of industry show that there is no stopping the megatrend toward digitization.
  3. Four keys to unleash the potential of digitization in the construction industry. Automation Digital data and digital access Connectivity everyone has been witness to the digital transformation from industry 3.0 to the revolution industry 4.0 where we have seen the utilization of computer in all aspects of our life to the mass data and cloud base solutions and 5G technology, but when it comes to the construction technology adoption, we are still behind and slow in the adoption rate. We are still using conventional ways to do construction projects. And still we are not deploying the technology that could achieve efficient workflows and increase the productivity. About 93% of construction industry players agree that digitization will affect every process. However <6% of construction companies make full use of digital planning tools.
  4. When you hear about construction technologies: what does come to your mind? Drone technology Or unmanned aerial vehicles for capturing real-time images from the field in less time and more accurate. There are many applications for the drones in the construction such as inspection and monitoring the project progress The 3D scanner is high-accuracy mapping instrument that uses laser beams to quickly capture complete detail of the entire building construction project, indoor or outdoor in order to create the point cloud data, it’s great technology to save time and decrease error where the scanner can collect one million points per second. It delivers 3D cat model, BIM integration and as built documentation IOT: connects products, plants, systems, and machines, by sensors and software. it’s widely used in remote operations, fleet management, and predictive maintenance applications. It also used for tracking labor hours 3D construction printing is computer-controlled sequential layering of materials to create three-dimensional shapes It is used to fabricate building and construction components 3D mobile mapping: it‘s 3D scanner mounted on the Vehicle , comprised of LiDAR, GNSS and imaging technologies. After mounting to a vehicle, the scanner can acquire colored 3D point cloud data in real-time.  BIM : is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure. Robotics in construction coud be Off-site prefabrication systems, OR On-site automated and robotic systems, Or Drones and autonomous vehicles,  3D machine control systems are combinattion of GPS or total stations combined with sensors, hydraulic valves and controllers automate the blade of the grader or dozer, the system will always follow the 3D design for cut an fill and levelling. These systems are greatly contributing to the improved efficiency of civil engineering work When you hear about construction technologies: what does come to your mind? BIM technology Drone technology Mobile mapping and 3D scanning 3D machine control GPS technology in surveying and construction Virtual Reality and Wearables 3D Printing IOT Robotics Machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) Digital twins Telematics Smarter buildings (sensors, cloud connection)
  5. There is great Evolution occurred in the construction technology last 20 years. Shiffting from computer on the desk to mobile connectivity, Wi-fi, blutooth, GPS and high resolution cameras, all that have changed the industry of construction. We see that in shifting from 2D to 3D Models, then BIM models then now it’s digital twins. If we look at the surveying equipment, from mechanical total station to motorized then robotic then scanner total station now , the same in GPS technologies where we can measure accurate positions while moving and tilting. Scanners also has developed from basic 3D scanners to high tech scanner measures 1 million points per second, adding sensors like IMU To the scanner and high resolution cameras we are able to collect data by vehicle while driving in the street. Then drones technology Moving to the heavy machine for construction, we can see 3D machine control technology which is able to do the cut and fill automatically without intervention from the operator.
  6. The outlook of the automation adoption of the construction equipment From 200 million US dollars in 1994 to more than 1 billion US dollar in 2018 and expected to reach to 3.7 billion in 2022 it shows that the adoption of the technology is increasing significantly
  7. Expansion from 3D to 6D , 3D data will be connected to 4D (time), 5D (cost), and 6D (maintenance).
  8. Why automation and technolgy are important in the construcion industry Time challenges and more time means more cost The need to increase the productivity with the same resources, only technology can do that. The challenge of safety at the construction site Avoid error, rework and delays in order to decrease the cost Secure data via cloud and accessable The lack of skilled machines operators Get efficient work done and high accuracy deliverables That’s clear to all of us when we see many projects are not meeting the timelines and closed above budget.
  9. Why do we use construction technology Complex designs Mega cities Challenging designs Creative designs Safety like inspecting high voltage towers players in the construction industry who move quickly to concern themselves with technological developments and think carefully about how to implement them; have every chance of setting themselves apart from the competition. By introducing digital methods, utilizing automation, and embracing technology, these firms will become more productive and more effective.
  10. Let’s look at the construction workflow in order to understand the construction solutions available for each phase of the project
  11. As you can see that there is increase in the productivity for agriculture and other manufacturing but with the challenges in the construction sites, the productivity is decreasing without utilizing the technology. There is big gap between what technologies available for the construction industry and what have been deployed and adopted so with the challenges that the construction industry faces nowadays, the technology is the only way to catch up and increase the productivity
  12. The automation has positive impact on the productivity and the cost. We have some exmples of that impact
  13. Moving from paper work and sticks or pins to transfer the desing to the job site, now with machine control technology , design file is uploaded to the control box or sent from office to the machine in few seconds. Then the machine will do the earthwork automatically
  14. Information communication technology (ICT) has undergone further advancements in the construction industry with the intention of improving works operations by lowering costs while increasing efficiency through the sharing of information. Construction machinery are embedded with machine control and machine guidance. Inspection is done fast and accurately by drones.
  15. With various applications, 3D measurement data is utilized in many fields. Major industries include construction, mining and manufacturing (plants). It is almost impossible except using the latest 3D measurement systems, to achieve 3D conversion of particularly large-scale sites and complex shapes.
  16. 6D maintenance, There are a wide variety of measurement objects, including social infrastructure such as roads, bridges, rivers, and tunnels. Private facility facilities such as manufacturing plants, National and local historical and cultural sites,
  17. Much of the innovation in the construction industry is being driven by technological advancements. And with new software features added to platforms on a frequent basis, construction professionals are constantly presented with new opportunities for growth.
  18. Sharing data between machines and instruments during the project phases has great impact on time saving and the accuracy of the data If we have 3D design which was created by Drone or scanner. That can be used with all the machines for the leveling and cut/fill. It also could be shared to all graders, dozers and excavators. It can be used by the total station for stake-out
  19. Shared data between all project stake holders has postive impact on imporving the processes and developing the integration and communications between the members of the project team For many years, the construction industry has had the challenge of communicating information efficiently to clients. Owners would have to frequently visit the construction site to see how their project was proceeding and to ensure high standards of quality. But now, Cloud-based technology is allowing customers to remain updated on the progress of their project during every step of the way. For example, 3D sketches and models can be shared with clients in real-time for approval, and documents can be processed and shared almost immediately REAL TIME REPROTS from the site about machine and trucks operations, and productivity can be sent from the site to the office. Updated Designs and new tasks can be sent from the office to the site. By the end of the day, everyone of the project team and all stake holders have all data about the operation, and the productivity of the job site.
  20. Imagine the construction site as a living, breathing organism with a brain, a nervous system, and all the physical capabilities to do virtually anything—optimizing itself, employing resources, and speeding processes. Such kind of smart job sites allow you to connect more technologies and link to other systems, sensors, cloud and software, in order to improve the communication and real time reports and information. That all leads to intelligent construction.
  21. the construction industry goes digital; no doubt, and Those companies that move early to develop and implement their own digitization strategy will be the winners. Keep in mind that construction technology is constantly changing the industry, so be sure to keep up with the latest trends, and research into how construction technology could help you to increase productivity, improve worker safety , and reduce the cost of labor.
