This document discusses how hackathons can be used to support better public services by addressing three common sins of public institutions: lack of competences, skills, and dialogue. It proposes that hackathons can help identify real needs, develop implementable solutions quickly and cheaply, and foster partnerships between institutions and the public through activities like design thinking, automation, chatbots, and augmented reality. The overall goal is to make institutions more open and accessible to citizens.
