3. WHAT?
is an environmental rating system for buildings developed by PAM
(Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia / Malaysian Institute of Architects) and
ACEM (the Association of
Consulting Engineers Malaysia).
Its develop specifically for the Malaysian Tropical Weather, environmental
and environmental context, cultural and social needs.
Malaysia’s first comprehensive rating system for evaluating the
environmental design and performance of Malaysian buildings based on

 Indoor Environment Quality,
 Sustainable Site Planning & Management
 Materials & Resources
 Water Efficiency
 Innovation.
4. • Improve energy consumption by

(SM)
5. • Promote the use of eco friendly materials sourced from
sustainable sources and recycling.
MATERIALS AND • Implement proper construction waste management with –
RESOURCES (MR) storage-collection
• Reuse of recycables and construction formwork and waste.
• Rainwater harvesting
WATER EFFICIENCY • Water recycling
(WE) • Water saving fittings
INNOVATION (IN) • Innovative design that meets the objectives of the GBI.
6. GBI IS CREATED TO?
• Define green buildings by establishing a common language and
standard of
measurement;
• Promote integrated, whole-building design;
• Recognise and reward environmental leadership;
• Transform the built environment to reduce it’s environmental impact;
and
• Ensure new buildings remain relevant in the future and existing
buildings are
refurbished and upgraded properly to remain relevant.
 The developers will be able to plan more sustainable and green
projects.
 Allow us to undertake development in a more environmental –friendly
way
 To get better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance and
removal
7.
8. WHO CAN USE THE GBI?
All members of Project Teams, Building owners, Developers and other
interested
parties (including Contractors, Government and Design & Build
Contractors)
 To validate environmental initiatives at the design phase of new
construction
 encouraged on all such projects to assess and improve their
environmental attributes.

linked houses, apartments, condominiums,
townhouses, semi-detached and bungalow.
•It more emphasis on sustainable site planning and
management, followed by energy efficiency.
GBI RATING TOOL •Will reduce the negatice impact to the
environment
•And create better and safe place for the
community as a whole.
