A wind farm is a group of wind turbines located together that are used to produce energy. Wind farms can consist of hundreds of turbines covering hundreds of square miles, though land between turbines can still be used for agriculture. For economic wind power generation, windspeeds of 16 km/h or higher are generally required. A 2010 study showed that the immediate area around wind farms is cooler during the day and slightly warmer at night than surrounding areas, due to turbulence created by the spinning blades.
