If my alliteration didn't make it clear what I have chosen as my favorite place, it is Barcelona. I have
visited Barcelona several times (3) the last few years and I enjoyed every minute I have spent in this

buildings considering the lack of industrial inventions at the time being.
Another part of Barcelona I really like is the 'Olympic Mountain' Montjuïc. The mountain has of
course always been there, but it first started to become a tourist attraction when the Olympic area
was built in 1992. Near the Olympic stadium, there is a park with trees and different kinds of

The readings this week began to introduce basic ideas about urbanization and some general
information about famous sites in Barcelona. In the first chapter of "Barcelona: the Great
Enchantress", Robert Hughes described how he was first introduced to Barcelona and its rich
culture. He painted a very compelling picture of a city I now can't wait to visit one day. He began by
introducing some Barcelonan sites he visited such as, the Sagrada Família designed by Gaudí, the
Pyreness mountain range, and his friend Xavier Corberó's house, Can Cargol, located in Esplugües
de Llobregat in Southern Barcelona. I found it fascinating that winding catacombs had been dug
underneath Can Cargol for storage and possibly defense in the Roman times (Hughes 2004: 5).
Hughes also suggested that these caves might have reminded people of "the secret labyrinth of a
snail shell" (Hughes 2004: 5) which would explain how it got its Catalan name in which translates to
house of the snail. He described his experiences in the cave and one particular instance stood out to
me; In one of the storage rooms there was an old printing press that could have been used by a
radicalist to promote anti–Carlist texts (Hughes 2004: 5). According to the Encyclopedia Britannica,

modern artifact stood out for me. Looking at it from a distance, it grabbed my attention with its light
translucent structure; I couldn't define the shape. In my eyes all I could see was clustered,
intersecting, free stranding lines in the middle of Plaza Nova. This installation titled "Identity" was
designed by Chinese–based studio Urbanus, for Voltaire's "Barcelonans extreme love of freedom"
300th anniversary of 11 September 1714. On that date, after a thirteen month siege, the city of
Barcelona collided with French–Castilian troops and it turned into a very bloody affair that involved
all sectors of the city. The sacrifices and subsequent spirit of recovery turned this date into a symbol
of the Catalan existing national entity. A colored bamboo structure in a grid installation
reinterpreting a form of an ancient wall with vaults creating openings you could walk through. This
modern artifact had clearly behind it more than aesthetic beauty; a sense of travel through Time and

Going into my middle school years I was so scared of what was to come. People would tell me
stories of bullies and lots of homework, and the book "Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life"
didn't really help with my anxiousness. When August 18th, 2014 came around all the frightening
tales people told me went away. My middle school years ended up being a time where I made new
friends, went on amazing trips, and learned fascinating things. My trip to Spain was full of culture I
had never experienced and my cruise was spectacular with sights of beaches and landmarks that
were beautiful.
