    One thing: The Epic Similes DO NOT necessarily use like or as. No collegiate or scholarly resource uses this definition.
    (1) This is absolutely dependent upon the translation;
    (2) High Shcool Curriculum weans students away from 'tricks' or 'shortcuts' learned in earlier grades and holds them accountable for understanding the 'nature' of what they are learning. In this case, a simile--specifically, an epic simile--is a comparison of UNLIKE THINGS for purposes of comparison.
    Although many similes DO use like or as, it is not necessary. Collegiate and scholarly resources do not include this 'clue' in their definitions.
