1. The openings of the two news bulletins are very similar, both
beginning with a jingle and station identification. The only
difference is the wording of the station introduction, as ours
says “Oldham Community Radio on 99.7FM” whereas theirs is
more formal, saying “you’re listening to Oldham Community
Radio on 99.7FM, news update” so is more personal to the
audience, however both achieve the purpose of the jingle,
which is to introduce the station and show, which should be
short and sweet, and so our bulletin so far, seems to be quite a
typical news bulletin.
For the closure, the original Oldham Community Radio bulletin
repeats the introduction, “you’re listening to Oldham
Community Radio, 99.7FM”, whereas we concluded ours with
“thanks for listening to Oldham Community Radio, see you in
an hour.” From looking at the closures, ours isn’t a typical local
news bulletin closure, as it is more informal: “see you in an
hour”, inviting the audience to return, whereas OCR keeps
theirs quite professional, repeating the name and frequency of
the station, which will remind the audience who they’re
listening to so they can tune in again. However, both conclude
the show well.
Lastly, throughout the Oldham Community Radio bulletin
there’s no soundbed, which is present on quite a lot of news
bulletins from other stations. Our bulletin does include a
soundbed, so is not a typical bulletin in comparison to this one,
but is typical in comparison to others.
