The Pohick Stream Stabilization Phase II project restored approximately 1,000 feet of Pohick Creek along the southern and western perimeters of the Noman M. Cole Jr., Pollution Control Plant. The restored stream reduces the energy of flowing water and keeps the creek from eroding into the plant’s property line.

Description:
This project included approximately 1,000 feet of stream work involving the stabilization of areas 2 & 3 of Pohick
Creek located along the southern and western perimeter of the Noman M. Cole Jr., Pollution Control Plant (NCPCP).
This portion of embankment was badly undermined and had been endangered of encroaching upon the NCPCP fence
line towards the equalization basins. This project was substantially complete on February 22, 2018.
Project Overview:
Area 2:
- Moving the embankment line away from the equalization basin (50 feet back from the original location)
- Installation of an imbricated rock wall on the north side embankment
- Installation of 4 rock veins
- Placement of Class II stone on the south embankment facing direct flow impact of the stream
- Re-grading and coir matting placement on the southern embankment
Area 3:
- Moving the Hogge Run tributary away from the equalization basin (10 feet back from the original location)
- Placement of Class I rock on the western toe
- Placement of coir matting on the east side of the stream
