• An Operating System (OS) is an organised
collection of programs that acts as an interface
between machine hardware and users, providing
users with a set of facilities and maintenance of
programs and at the same time controlling the
allocation of resources.
Example: MS-DOS, UNIX, Windows-98,02,
Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows-7,8 etc.
