TANZANIA TRIP 8 – 18th
April 2014
Dear Parents of Grade 9 students,
Due to the success of our CAS Project Tanzania trip last year, we are once again giving our students
the opportunity to participate in an enriching and life changing experience.
We will be flying to Kilimanjiro Airport and will be staying on the Campus of the International School
of Moshi in dormitory accommodation. The students will be participating in projects that are of
benefit to the local community and will also have the opportunity to go on safari for two days. Last
year our students helped to build the foundations for a school, painted school desks and planted
trees on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. These activities really gave the students an understanding of the
lives of some Tanzanian people and an appreciation of another culture.
We see this trip as an educational experience whereby students are asked to reflect regularly on
what they have seen and share their understanding with others. After dinner we meet as a group
and share the experiences of the day and have found that this is a real learning experience for us all.
The students who are interested in taking part are required to write an answer to the following
statement: ‘Why I should go to Tanzania and what impact the trip I think will have on me personally.’
They will then meet with us to discuss their perceptions of the trip and will be informed if they have
been accepted onto the trip.
Students will then be required to raise money that we can give to the local orphanages that we visit.
Last year they organised several Fundraising activities that were very successful and made a lot of
difference to the communities to which we donated.
The total cost for the Trip is AED 9500 which includes the flight, safari for 2 days, full board and
lodging for 10 days, participation in projects and donation to the community. It does not include
costs for the visa, spending money and required vaccinations.
To give you more information and to answer your questions, we will be holding an Information
evening in the Secondary library on Monday 16th
September at 1800 . Please do come along and find
out more about the Tanzania Trip, it made such a difference to the students.
‘The world is running out of lots of things: oil, trees etc, but we will never run out of good people.
Ask for a shovel and they’ll dig you a hole. I want to be one of those good people. This is a major
step forward to that kind of thing.’
