First, as the Rector of the National University of Management, I would like to sincerely welcome
you to our institution here in the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. For those who have
become our partners and friends, I extend a heartfelt appreciation for your cooperation and
support in advancing higher education in our developing nation. The popularity of NUM as a
quality training institution began at its commencement in 1983. NUM continues to be one of the
leading public universities in Cambodia.
The Kingdom of Cambodia, a member of ASEAN, has committed herself to be a regional
and global competitive market. With the much-anticipated free flow of human capitals in the
region starting in 2015, NUM is resolved to contribute by first casting the vision of “Excellence in
Academics.” Our vision statement will emphasize the importance of providing outstanding, quality
assurance standards in education, research and innovation, which strives to promote knowledge-
based competence.
In order to achieve this vision, our resources will be invested in infrastructural improvements
and staff development that will provide the most conducive learning environment. Not only will
the facilities and faculty be upgraded but the content of curriculum must also evolve to meet the
needs of the changing educational and commercial landscapes. Then, our students and staff
can become effective global players as they dedicate themselves to growing in their knowledge,
research, and innovations.
My colleagues and I sincerely commit to endeavor to do our best in achieving the vision
set forth in offering the highest standard of education and research. In doing so, we hope to fulfill
and go beyond our students’ expectation of obtaining a reputable and quality education from the
National University of Management.

Historically, the university was founded
in 1983 and named Economic
Institute. It was located in the former
French School “Lyceé Descardes”. At
the beginning, the bachelor program
was introduced in economic fields which
specialized in commerce, agriculture,
industry, finance, and planning. In
1989, it was re-named Institute of
Economic Science (IES) and comprised
academic major fields in economics
and commerce. In 1994, in response to
political and economic reform towards
democracy and free economic markets,
IES was-renamed Faculty of Business
(FOB). It launched academic major fields
in management, marketing, accounting,
and finance. In 1998, FOB was re-named
National Institute of Management (NIM),
and the first private payment programs
were introduced to all levels. In 2004,
the academic role of NIM was broadly
expanded and then became National
University of Management (NUM). Soon
afterwards,in2005,itwasaccreditedtofull

STUDENTLIFE
Extracurricular activities at the university enrich the educational
experience of our students. Students can participate on teams such
as the men’s football and volleyball clubs or they can join other peers to
support their friends playing for the pride of the university. The Student
Association is another group that is elected by peers to represent their
interests to the university administration. Other groups such as the Red
Cross and Scouts promote community service on campus and in the city.
These groups are opened to all students looking to make a difference in
the life of their city. Through these activities, students learn to serve, work
together to reach a common goal, and enrich their overall experience as
they pursue their degree.
