System Pressure - Release
SMCS - 3000-553-PX; 4250-553-PX; 4300-553-PX; 5050-553-PX; 6700-553-PX
Release Procedure
1. Park on a level surface. If you must park on a grade, chock the machine.
2. Apply the service brake in order to stop the machine. Move the transmission control lever to
the NEUTRAL position.
3. Move the speed control lever to the LOW IDLE position.
4. Engage the parking brake.
5. Engage the transmission neutral lock.
6. Lower all attachments to the ground.
7. Stop the engine.
8. Turn the engine start switch key to OFF position for 4 seconds.
9. Turn the engine start switch key back to ON position.
10. Press the clamp cylinder switch to the ON position.
11. Operate all hydraulic controls through all positions in order to relieve hydraulic pressure.
Repeat this step until all hydraulic pressure is released.
12. Move the hydraulic control levers to the HOLD position.
13. Turn the engine start switch to OFF position and remove the key.

Hood - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the side panel.

1. Open hood (2) and remove four bolts (1) . Remove left side of hood (2) and air precleaner
(3) .

2. Remove bolts (4) from the front right side of the hood.
3. Remove bolts (6) from hood (5) .

4. Remove bolts and nuts (7) and hood (5) .
5. Remove four bolts (9) on both sides. Remove the hood support assembly (8) .
Installation Procedure
1. Install hood (5) in the reverse order of removal procedure.

Side Panel - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
A. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.
1. Remove four bolts (2) and right side engine cover (1) .

2. Remove four bolts (3) and left side engine cover (4) .
3. Remove four bolts (6) and two supports (8). Remove bolt (5) and grill (7) .

1. Install grill (7) and bolt (5). Install two supports (8) and four bolts (6) .
2. Install left side engine panel (4) and four bolts (3) .

3. Install right side engine panel (1) and four bolts (2) .

Battery - Remove and Install
SMCS - 1401-010
Removal Procedure
Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.
First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the
positive battery cable.
A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not
disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.
1. Turn the key for the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Remove the key.

1. Remove the upper cover (1) to access the battery. Remove bolts (2) and open front cover
(3).
2. Disconnect negative cable assembly (5). Disconnect positive cable assembly (4).
3. Remove nuts (6) and loosen nuts (8). Remove studs (7).
4. Use two people to remove battery (9). The weight of battery (9) is approximately 44 kg
(97 lb). Remove battery (9) through front access door (3).
1. Install battery (9) in the reverse order of removal procedure.
a. Tighten positive cable assembly (4) and negative cable assembly (5) to a torque of
7.5 ± 0.5 N·m (66.4 ± 4.4 lb in).

Muffler - Remove and Install
SMCS - 1062-010
Removal procedure
1. Turn knob (1) in counterclockwise and pull back to open the engine access door (2).

2. Position door (2) with rod (3).
3. Loosen clamp nuts (5) and remove exhaust pipe (4).
4. Remove nuts (7) and (8). Remove muffler (6).
1. Install muffler (6) in the reverse order of removal procedure.

a. Tighten nuts (8) to a torque of 13.5 ± 1.5 N·m (119.4 ± 13 lb in).
b. Tighten clamp nuts (5) to a torque of 24 ± 1 N·m (212 ± 9 lb in).

Radiator - Remove and Install
SMCS - 1353-010
Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Remove the hood.
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.
At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The
radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or
steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.
Remove filler cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped
and radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Cooling System Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin
and eyes.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container for storage or disposal refer to Operation
and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant-Change" for the correct draining and
filling procedure.
2. Drain hydraulic oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and
Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil - Change" for the correct draining and filling
procedure.
3. Loosen hose clamps (2) and remove hose (1).

4. Loosen clamps (3) and remove hose (4).
5. Remove bolts (8) and loosen clamps (6). Disconnect hoses (7).
6. Attach the suitable lifting device to radiator (5). The weight of the radiator is approximately
42 kg (93 lb).
7. Remove bolts (9).
8. Repeat Steps 5 and 7 to the opposite side of the machine.
9. Remove radiator (5).
