Your Word Lord IsMy Shield

  1.     We thank you Lord for your word, that is our shield.    He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your                                      armor and protection. Psalm 91:4    Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. Proverbs 30:5    It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to,                                                and it will prosper everywhere I send it. Isaiah 55:11    Did you know that the word of God is your shield and protection?  Have you used the word of God as your shield?  Do you remember a time when the word of God was your shield and protected you?  Do you have a personal testimony about this?    Let's look in a real case, how the word of God can be effectively used as a shield:    Matthew 4:111  Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days  and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.  During that time the devil came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to  become loaves of bread. But Jesus told him, No! The Scriptures say, People do not live by bread  alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.  Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, If you  are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, He will order his angels to protect you. And they  will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. Jesus responded, The  Scriptures also say, You must not test the Lord your God.
  2. Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the  world and their glory. I will give it all to you, he said, if you will kneel down and worship me. Get out of  here, Satan, Jesus told him. For the Scriptures say, You must worship the Lord your God and serve  only him.  Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.    Comment:    Jesus came into the world to redeem us and provide us salvation as a gift for his redemptive work.                                      That is, by grace. However, for that to be achieved, he had to come into this world with a human                                        nature and experience all the temptations and weaknesses that humans face. Thus, he became the                              perfect sacrifice and His death would redeem us all. That is why the devil had to tempt him with all his                                          cunning and power to make him fall and destroy the purpose of his work.    Let us analyze the temptations:    Devil’s Temptation:  If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.  Meaning: Use your position as son of God to obtain pleasure and physical well being.  Jesus answered:  No! The Scriptures say, People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the  mouth of God.  Meaning: We should seek the spiritual wellbeing that comes from God, rather than seeking the                              physical well being the world provides.    Devil’s Temptation:  If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, He will order his angels to protect you.  And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.  Meaning: Put God to the test. Do something to test His promises of protection, so you can see they                                      are true.  Jesus replied:  The Scriptures also say, You must not test the Lord your God.  Meaning: You can not claim the fulfillment of a promise from God, testing him and challenging him to                                    fulfill his promises, because we can not bargain with God or force him to do something. He is our                                      God, King, Lord and our Father.    Devil’s Temptation:  The devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world                                          and their glory. I will give it all to you, he said, if you will kneel down and worship me.  Meaning: Place power, fame, riches, and all that it brings, as your priority, above God. In other words,                                    worship the world instead of worshiping God.  Jesus replied:  Get out of here, Satan, Jesus told him. For the Scriptures say, You must worship the Lord your God  and serve only him.  Meaning: The children of God, only worship and serve our heavenly Father, who is our Lord, King                                  and God. To serve the devil, the world or the flesh is betraying our Father.    Jesus overcame the temptations of the devil using the word and promises of God. Then the devil                                  went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus, because our Father in heaven always rewards                                  overcoming temptations, with provision and protection.
  3.   All the answers Jesus gave the devil, were Bible verses:    People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God:                                    Deuteronomy 8:3  You must not test the Lord your God: Deuteronomy 6:16  You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.: Deuteronomy 6:13    The devil can not do anything against the word of God. Facing that defense, he always flees.    Application:  Use the word of God as your shield of defense when you are being attacked, tempted, to weaken                                    your faith. Just use Bible verses, do not use other arguments or defenses you can think of. Your best                                      protection shield and defense is the word of God.    Other relevant verses to the subject:    God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever                                                spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 23:19    God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for                                          protection. Psalm 18:30    Because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the                                  promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by                                human desires. 2 Peter 1:4    The one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me,                                      “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5
