1. Uncle Frank Cares $5,000 Giveaway
By Meghan E.W. Corbett
you have lived in the Triad area for any amount of time, you have certainly seen the famous Frank
If Myers commercials. They are colorful, energetic and the catch phrases will stick in your head for days!
Everyone knows they sell great cars at competitive prices under the umbrella of fantastic customer service,
but what you may not know is how much the people behind the business care about the community.
“The dealership has always been involved with local charities and non-profit organizations,” said Tracy
Myers, Chairperson for the Uncle Frank Cares $5,000 Giveaway and the annual WrestleCade. “However,
we were looking for a way to continue supporting them while giving the community a way to voice their
opinion as well, so when we sat down in the final quarter of 2011 to plan for 2012, we came up with our
Uncle Frank Cares $5,000 Giveaway. It was a perfect way to involve the community in helping to
determine who and/or what organization received the money. In addition to that, we thought that the best
method to spread the word about the contest was Facebook. We now have more than 20,000 fans that
have the opportunity to see the contest, be made aware of the great charities that are contenders and to
make the final decision. It was definitely a ‘win-win.’”
Not only do those behind the scenes make the giveaway accessible for just about any charity with North
Carolina ties, it gives the people in the community the power to select the recipient. “Any charity or non-
profit that is based in NC, does work in NC, or has ties in NC can qualify,” said Myers. “Obviously, there
are several additional rules and regulations, but we wanted to keep this simple. I encourage everyone to
read the ‘fine print,’ but those are the basics. The recipients are nominated by our Facebook fans, and the
finalists are voted on by our Facebook fans. The charity or non-profit that has the most votes at the end of
the contest wins $5,000. It’s that simple, and 100% of the
money will be given away by the dealership.”
Uncle Frank has high hopes for the future of community
service delivered by the dealership, but it takes support to
achieve those goals. “I hope that the community
embraces it and supports it, so that it can become an
annual event,” said Myers. “This is very exciting for
us, and the winner will be announced almost a week
after we complete our other major fundraiser,
WrestleCade. It’s a family-friendly wrestling event
that partners with Christmas Toy Drive to provide
toys to less fortunate boys and girls during
Christmas. It will be held on November
25th at 3 p.m. at the Benton Convention
Center in Winston-Salem. We
hope to have a check for at
least $10,000 to donate to the
Christmas Toy Drive on that
night and give another $5,000
away on December 1st. It’s a
blessing to be fortunate enough to
be able to help.”
