BSE Midcap 6,996 7,040 (0.61) Markets witnessed sharp sell-off after the Nifty came within striking distance of hitting the crucial technical BSE Smallcap 8,375 8,448 (0.86) barrier of 200 DMA (5742). Traders and investors preferred to book some profit and stayed on the sidelines Nifty Junior 11,357 11,544 (1.62) ahead of an eventful week which would see important data points like IIP, monthly inflation besides the results of a few top index heavyweights. Friday’s decline was led by metals after a draft Government bill CNX Midcap 8,116 8,176 (0.73) stipulated doubling of royalty payments for non-coal miners with locals, while coal miners will have to share 26% of their profits with locals. Public sector banks and FMCG stocks were among the other main losers. BSE Realty index was the only index which ended in the green, rising by 2%.
