Each True/False question consists of a
basic statement, e.g.
Information conveyed by the grapevine
moves quickly. (True)
Deciding whether this statement is true
or false is straightforward.

but also your ability to read the question
carefully.
That is why we find the following:

3. 1. Qualifying words:
A qualifying word is often added which
changes the statement in such a way
that it may now mean the opposite of
what it did originally, e.g.

6. Watch out for these often-
used qualifying words:
all, always, invariably, only,
everybody, none, never,
nobody, seldom, frequently,
most, some, sometimes.

7. 2. Negative words:
Sometimes a negative word
or prefix is added to a basic
statement, e.g.

unimportant means of
informal internal
communication.

9. The grapevine is an

10. Although everything else in
this statement is true, the
unimportant makes the
whole statement false.

11. Examples of negative prefixes are:
dis- (disagree);
il- (illegal);
im- (improbable);
in- (inappropriate);
non- (non-standard);
un- (unlikely).

12. 3. Two-part statements:
This type of statement has a
standard beginning followed
by a traditional true/false
statement. Divide the two
statements, e.g.

second part is true or false.
In this case it is True.

15. Then turn the first half
into a question:
Is it fair to say this true
statement?

Additions to the statement
that are deliberately meant
to confuse you, e.g.
