2. With the emphasis very much on identity of my record label and by brand, I made my own
for my project, this will help my product look professional and unique along with the fact
that it will make it stand out. My first move was to look into record label and company
logo’s and seals and how each one fit with the individual theme and identity that the
product that was promoted by the company’s had. I researched heavily in this area as I
believed I could find a solid common link between the company’s theme and make up and
the logo it used. My analysis is that the music company's had designed there logo’s to best
reflect a meaning within there products such as the style or genre of music that they made
or the size or type of company that it is.
My next step was to create a small mood board compiling all the different music recorded
label company logos that I had looked at for inspiration.
While there are trends between the logos e.g. color, size and theme which helps the logos
stand out against colorful cd backgrounds or posters and TV ads. I believe that there is a
mixture out there including different designs and shapes. Most of the logos that I have
seen don’t fit a particular genre or theme which I believe it interesting, I believe that his
may be because most record labels are open to a wide range of music and try to record I
load of different genres, this really is for there own benefit because they will attract a
bigger target audience or fan base.
So in conclusion most of the companies logo arrangements today are very generic and
basic and I think it is too represent a wide range of musical tastes and target audiences
they are trying to reach. I also think that a basic logo looks tidier and more professional
than one that has a lot of detail and elements going on within it.
4. My record label logo design
While some of the companies use full names in the logo name, I have decided to use
my initials of each of my three names, I feel that this ads a personal touch instead of
naming up a name that could possibly not fit to the theme of my label. While the
name of my label might not represent the theme of my song or the genre it gets
relevance by the fact that it is named after the founder of the label. Some of the logo
designs that I have researched I feel don’t have any reference to the record label or
the music that the record label makes such as the Sony logo that is this curved red line
or EMI which is a rectangular red block with the three letters carved out in white. But
on the other hand some do have relevance to there label such as SYCO which shows it
in the font it uses for SYCO or UNIVERSAL which shows a globe so there is a clear link
there. This could possibly suggest that this label gets/ records music from around the
world or represents music or makes music for around the world. I have taken what I
have found on board and have designed my logo in a way that fits the style and the
concept of my music video, because the song I am doing talks about darkness and
sadness I have decided to show a contract by showing the blazing sun witch could be
represented by happy and light and bright. This is not the only relation the picture of
the sun has because the song’s lyrics talk about the sun gleaming in which shows a link
between my picture and that. The blue font shows a contrast to the red and yellow of
the sun but is also used to empisises peace and calm and water that is also present
with in the song by keane called sea fog. The shape is suppose to represent a light
beam shining down. I feel that the triangle adds a bit of shape and changes the
dynamics of the picture to make it look different.
