2. ROBERT KOCH
• The WHO chose March 24 as world tuberculosis day to
commemorate the day Dr. Robert Koch(1882) discovered
TB bacillus.
• World tuberculosis day was created by the WHO to
spread knowledge and awareness of tuberculosis
• TB kills millions every year. It is easily curable, but it
can lie dormant and undetected for years, so it’s
important to spread awareness.
3. Invest to End TB. Save Lives
• For the first time in over a decade, TB
deaths increased in 2020. The theme of
World TB Day 2022 - 'Invest to End
TB. Save Lives. ' –conveys the urgent
need to invest resources to ramp up the
fight against TB and achieve the
commitments to end TB made by global
leaders
4. TB CONTINUES TO BE IMPORTANT COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
TB infection is extremely common – about one quarter of the
world’s population is estimated to be infected.
Preventive treatment for tuberculosis can stop TB infection from
turning into active disease .
TB remains the world’s deadliest infectious killer.
Each day, over 4000 people lose their lives to TB and close to
30,000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease.
5. IT’S TIME TO END STIGMA
Stigma associated with TB disease may also place
certain populations at higher risk. Stigma may
keep people from seeking medical care or follow
up care for TB.
But anyone can get TB. People with TB can be
found in every state; where we work, where we
live, where we learn, and where we spend time
with family and friends
8. WORLD TB DAY AS IMPORTANT EVENT TO EDUCATE
World TB day is a day to educate the public
about the impact of TB around the world.
CDC, along with our partners and colleagues
around the world share successes in TB
prevention and control and raise awareness of
the challenges that hinder our progress toward
the elimination of this devastating disease.
9. OBJECTIVES OF TB CONTROL IN 2022
Scale up access to prevention and treatment;
Build accountability;
Ensure sufficient and sustainable financing
including for research;
Promote an end to stigma and discrimination,
Promote an equitable, rights-based and
people centered TB response.
10. IT’S TIME WE STRENGTHEN TB EDUCATION AND AWARENESS
AMONG HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS.
Treatment of latent TB infection is essential
to controlling and eliminating TB in the
united states. Our public health system and
private providers play a crucial role in this
effort.
11. HOW TO OBSERVE WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY
GET TESTED
Disease prevention always starts with
you. Testing for tuberculosis is simple,
and is sometimes required for travel or
job applications. It’s always a good
thing to have on your medical records
and not in your lungs.
12. SPREAD AWARENESS ON TB
Many people with TB don’t even know they have it.
Latent tuberculosis can lie dormant for years
without a single symptom.
This is why it’s important to spread awareness
about how to get tested and treated.
With any disease, prevention is the best .
