2. DAY 1 | 22nd April 2014
dAgenda
Workshop Overview
Led by a highly experienced Marine Engineering Investigative
facilitator for both foreign flagged statutory bodies and Marine
Insurers & Underwriters worldwide, this course provides delegates
an in-depth understanding of the technical approaches to critical
maritime engineering incident investigation, analysis and formal
procedures required when confronted with maritime incidents and
significant marine losses including cargo, ship fire, ship machinery
and collision.
The course demonstrates the current ineffectiveness and cost
to businesses that do not equip themselves with the technical
procedures and resources to manage critical engineering incidents
and investigations in a maritime environment. The content of
the course is designed with maritime organizations, insurers
and government agencies in mind. Participants will be taken
through the technical detail and aspects of investigating marine
engineering critical incident investigation. It is management
collectively and all personnel individually to prevent accidents,
and provide efficiencies, effective incident management and fact
finding solutions. So, the primary emphasis of this course is on
both preventative and reactive measures.
Aspects of foreign going vessels are covered in detail with regards
to what should be looked for, what standards are expected, and
the appropriate action recommended to correct anything found.
To complement this, ‘Fire Causes and Investigation’ including:
Points of Origin and The Science of Fire are introduced to improve
participants’ grasp of vessel safety and quality standards.
The trainer will use factual case studies and exercises along the
way to cement participants’ newly-acquired skills and help them
apply to real situations. Equally as important, a look at the mindset
of the investigator is given through the discussion of inspection
reports, thus giving participants an additional boost in anticipating
potential problems and correcting them beforehand.
The very nature of human activity dictates that, regardless
of precautions, emergencies can and will occur at any time
especially in the high risk offshore maritime sector. However,
risk, loss and damage resulting from such emergencies can be
minimized through appropriate preparation of crisis management,
emergency response planning and thorough investigation.
