25. How it works (1)
You set up a QuickBase database and then use Adobe Flex
Builder 3.0 with the IPP SDK to develop the SaaS application
25
26. How it works (2)
Publish the application to Intuit WorkPlace. The Intuit
WorkPlace is also where customers subscribe to applications.
26
27. How it works (3)
QuickBooks data is synced and changes to data in your SaaS
application are reflected within the subscriber's QuickBooks
product—and visa-versa.

28. How it works (4)
Determine the pricing plan and Intuit takes care of the rest
including billing & making developer payments.

Medium DC Very Large DC
Network $95 / Mbps / month $13 / Mbps / month 7.1x
Storage $2.20 / GB / month $0.40 / GB / month 5.7x
Administration ≈140 servers/admin >1000 servers/admin 7.1x
Extra benefits
– Amazon: utilize off-peak capacity
– Microsoft: sell .NET tools
– Google: reuse existing infrastructure
42. Layers in Cloud Architecture
• Application Layer Applications delivered on demand in the
software-as-a service (SaaS) model.
• Platform Layer Middleware providing application services
and a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) runtime environment for
cloud applications.
• Infrastructure Layer A flexible infrastructure of
distributed data center services connected via Internet
(infrastructure as service).

Notes de l'éditeur
Ok, so what’s behind the integration? What are these apps doing?Working with platform services in IPP, and sharing identity, data, billing
We want to frame IPP in terms of all the things your need to do as a developer to build, deploy and manage a SaaS business. First there is the hosting – the physical infrastructure, people, operations and resources you need to serve your applications to your end-users and keep the uptime expected by customers. Intuit has proven, secure and hardened infrastructure and expertise that’s been running business critical software as a service for years such as Turbo Tax, Quicken, QuickBooks Online and Quickbase. Next is the datastore your SaaS apps need – here we provide QuickBase. QuickBase for IPP is a database as a service – a component of the Intuit Partner Platform . QuickBase for IPP provides a programmable datastore allowing IPP developers to build on the rich, robust, role-based permissions model, user provisioning, e-mail notification and database management capabilities and leverage the enterprise-class, highly scalable and reliable infrastructure of QuickBase. Up the stack is the data and integrated experience your applications can leverage to provide instant value to your applications and your customers. Applications built on IPP today have data synchronization / read / write API access to subset of QuickBooks data – Customers, Vendors and Employees. Over the coming months, we’ll be providing a much richer data set for IPP applications to leverage. On the UI layer – with Flex, developers are able to quickly and easily create highly interactive rich desktop-like experiences on the web and for AIR, that can easily integrate with QuickBooks data. Then Combining Flex with QuickBase, developers are able to deliver on-demand businesses applications that are solid on the back-end, while delivering stunning user experiences that perform consistently across major browsers. Up the stack again, a big pain for developers to have to deal with when building and maintaining SaaS are the Billing, Identity – Authentication and Authorization services required to manage access to your SaaS applications and the associated billing and credit card overhead you need to take care of, instead of the innovation you want to focus on. We also provide a robust app share and data permissions model that again is taken care of for you. Then once you’ve got your app built, you need customers and this is where developers really win, where we use existing and new channels to take your app to market to millions of small business – and we’ll talk about that in a moment. All up, the Intuit Partner Platform is a “Platform-as-a-service” – where you can build & sell engaging and powerful Rich Internet Applications that integrate with QuickBooks data without creating your own data synchronization tools - without the hassle of building your own server, database, billing and identity infrastructure.
