The MOOCs under microscope

As MOOCS are nowadays a buzzword preponderantly in the higher educational area, even in Romania some initial steps could be already mentioned. Due to the controversy that exists around the MOOCs concepts and characteristics, at West University of Timisoara (WUT), Romania, we were developed an initial analysis in order to investigate the students’ perceptions regarding such type of courses (if they are willingly about them, if they are interested in attending such courses and on which subjects etc.). The study was carrying out through an online questionnaire on more than 600 students enrolled at WUT, during the first semester of the academic year of 2015-2016. We discuss and explain the implications, limitations and perspectives of this research. We consider our findings an important milestone both in understanding the needs of future modern students and in optimizing the way MOOCs are developed to serve the challenges in Romanian higher education
