- We were founded in 1995 out of the need for neutral, evidence-based data for the legislature (only in session 40 days/year). Began as Coalition for Health, comprised of consumers, providers, business and government: Georgia Health Decisions, citizen-based research organizationGeorgia Healthcare Provider Council, major provider-based organizationsGeorgia Business Forum on Health, affiliate of the Georgia Chamber of CommerceGeorgiaโs public sector, including state and local governmentsand health-related agencies and institutionsJoined GSU in 1996, as part of College of HHS. Now a research center within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.Karen Minyard, Executive Director of the GHPC, is also an Associate Research Professor in the PMAP department.

- - Program for state lawmakers who want to improve their understanding of health and health care - We use systems dynamics and systems thinking to encourage broader and more systemic approaches to policymaking.- More than 50 Georgia legislators and staff have attended the course
- We have been very involved in health reform over the last year. We assembled an interdisciplinary health reform work group from across GSU to understand and translate the new law, the Affordable Care Act. Since the passing of the law we have: Developed a Series of Policy Briefs (Targeted to specific audiences)Delivered PresentationsLaunched the 50-State Health ReformCalculator forSmall Businessesยฉ (helps small business owners estimate potential tax credit through health reform law)Workedwith other statesincluding FL, SC, NC, MS, CO, AK, and VA For our 15th anniversary, we offered complimentary consultations of the likely impact of health reform for 15 organizations in GA. It included a case study and report, 2-3 hour strategic planning session, and in October, all groups came together, along w/ others for a health reform symposium to discuss the learnings. Now involved withthe Governorโs Office of Planning and Budget in planning the stateโs Health Insurance Exchange
