Nervous Control of Movement
WHAT IS IT CONSIST
OF?
Nervous Control of Movements
    HUMAN NERVOUS SYSTEM (HNS)
● Consist of 2 types of system:
        – Central Nervous System (CNS)
                ● Brain
                ● Spinal Cord
        – Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
                ● 12pairs Cranial nerves &Branches
                ● 31pairs Spinal nerves & Branches
Central Nervous System(CNS)
CNS is responsible for:
   – Integrating (Taking in data)
   – Processing (Generates data)
   – Coordinating (Action)
Sensory data – Carries information on condition
inside and outside of the body.
Motor Command -Control or adjust activities of
peripheral organs. e.g :Muscle
Peripheral Nervous System(PNS)
● Sensory Nerves (Afferent)
       – Brings information to the CNS from receptors in
            organs e.g skin.
       – Detect changes or responds to the presence of
            specific stimuli.
● Motor Nerves (Efferent)
       – Carries motor commands from the CNS to
            muscle and glands for effector(actions)
       – Has different division such as Somatic (SNS)
            and Autonomic(ANS) components
DIVISION OF PERIPHERAL
   NERVOUS SYSTEM
Divisions of Peripheral Nervous
                 System
●   Somatic Nervous System(SNS):
       – Nerves send information to the brain from
            body's various detector
       – Controls voluntary actions
       – Example:
               ● Touching
               ● Hearing
               ● Seeing
Cont.
●   Autonomic Nervous System(ANS):
       – Controls the activities of all the internal organs.
       – Involuntary actions
       – Example:
               ● Blood circulation
               ● Breathing
               ● Digestive system
Cont.
 Autonomic Nervous System(ANS):
    – Has 2 types Divisions:
            ● Parasympathetic Division
➔ Important for control of normal body parts

                            Example:
                          ● Digestive system

            ● Sympathetic Division
➔ Also call 'Fight or Flight division

➔ Important in helping us cope with stress
NEURON & STRUCTURE
Neuron
● Basic funtional unit
● Specialized for elctrical signaling over long
    distances
● Respond to stimuli
         Examples: Touch, sounds, light
● Conduct impulses
● Communicate with other types of cells
         Example: Muscle cells
Neuron Structure
● More diverse in size and shape than other cells:
         Examples:
             ● Cell Body
             ● Dendrites
             ● Axon
             ● Synaptic Terminal
Cont.
IMPULSE
Impulse
● Membrane of the neuron
● Types of action potential:
        – Depolarization
        – Repolarization
● Action potential is a very fast changing process
● It happens whenever a nerves cell is
    stimulated.
Cont.
● Impulse are of:
        – Electromechanical nature
        – Active process
        – Self generating
        – Energy consuming
● Nerve cannot transmit continuous direct current
● Motor nerve transmit impulse – 70/120m/s
● Others travels 12-70m/s
SYNAPSE
Synapse
● Point of impulse transmision between neurons
● Impulse are transmitted from pre-synaptic
    neurons to post-synaptic neurons
Synapse
Synapse
REFLEXES & NERVOUS
CONTROL IN SKILLED WORK
Reflexes
● Not consciously directed (automatic)
           Example:
       – Blinking of eyelids
       – Touch a hot object
● Conditioned Reflexes
       – Becoming skilled
       – Devoloping new reflexes which go on without
            conscious control.
           Example:
               ● Writing
Nervous Control in Skilled Work
Nervous Control in Skilled Work
● Nervous impulses travel along the optic nerve
Nervous Control in Skilled Work
● Impulses then passed over to other centres in
    medulla and cerebellum

● Received visual, brains decides the next move.
