Excellence in Design with Copper

Dear

I write on behalf of the Institute of the Indian Interior Designers (IIID), the apex body of interior designers
across the country and the International Copper Promotion Council (India) (ICPCI), which is part of the
International Copper Association, a global non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the
benefits of using copper for safety, health, environment and energy savings worldwide.

Among others, IIID has the following aims:

• To recognize and acknowledge excellence in interior design
• To create a platform for gauging directions and trends in design
• To bring good design into everyday use

ICPCI aims to create awareness about the versatility of copper as a material of choice for designers.

IIID and ICPCI, two premier institutes in their respective field, have come together to recognize and
promote excellence in design in copper and copper alloys, through an annual IIID Copper Award.

The IIID Copper Award will be presented to the best design executed in the year, in copper or
copper alloys such as brass or bronze, in any field viz. Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design,
Industrial Design, etc.

The selection would be made by an independent jury nominated by the IIID.

IIID-ICPCI proudly presents the Copper Design Awards 2011
A competition for the design and creation of objects
made with copper or its alloys.

Topic of the competition

Objects entered must be intended for interior endowment, and their realized forms should feature
the prominent use of copper or its alloys (such as brass, bronze, cupronickel, etc.).

Design criteria

As a guide, the objects designed should fall into one of the following categories:

• FURNITURE (chairs, tables, coffee tables, bookcases)
• COMPLEMENTARY FURNITURE (coat hangers, magazine racks and book shelves, vases, table
accessories, etc)
• COVERINGS AND DECORATIONS (wall coverings, dividing walls, screens, doors)
• FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS (wash basins, faucets, lamps, lights, etc.)
• SCULPTURES / ARTEFACTS

While it is possible to integrate other materials into the design, copper or copper alloys must form
a major and significant part of it. The design should also showcase the aesthetic and practical
characteristics of copper, demonstrating the designer’s appreciation of the metal’s many
excellent qualities.

Participation

The competition is open to any Pure / Applied Art Practice in India.

1. For IIID members – No entry fee
2. For all others – Rs. 500 per entry

Deadline

Projects must be received on or before July 11, 2011.

Project submission

Each and every applicant, whether an individual or part of a group, must fill in and duly sign the
enclosed registration form.

Copyright

The intellectual rights of the design and its commercial use will stay with the designer as per the
Indian Copyrights Act. However, the participating projects / prototypes / designs will become a part
of the IIID-ICPCI initiatives archives and may be used for exhibition / publication to promote and
showcase IIID-ICPCI initiatives, aims and causes. All material submitted shall be deemed to have the
necessary publication release. It can be used for the purpose of publicity without further notification
to or clearance from the participants concerned.

Rules & Regulations

1. The design must be executed at the time of submission.

2. A participant / firm can send multiple entries.

3. The competition is open to any Pure / Applied Art Practice consisting of proprietary concern,
partnership firm, private & public limited company.

4. The signatory of the registration form is bound by the Award rules.

5. Each entry must be submitted as outlined below:

a) 2 / 3 Nos. A3 size panels mentioning the following details:
• Use of the installation.
• Context – Description of the product and the environs where it is supposed to be located.
• Technical Report – Explaining the method of engineering and other relevant technical data.
• Any other relevant information.
• Photographs of the installation.
• Drawings.

b) Soft Copy of the above panels.

c) A PPT presentation (Windows 95-97 format) explaining the project.

d) Professional biodata of the participant in hard copy as well as soft copy.

1. Participants shall not mention name of the work / project or designer anywhere on the panel or on
the sheets or photos mounted on the panel. The name should not be featured anywhere in the PPT
presentation. Failure to do so will invite disqualification.

2. All entries must be accompanied with the prescribed form.

3. While all possible care shall be taken for handling the panels, IIID shall not be responsible for any
damage or distortion of such entries.

4. The decision of the jury will be final and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

5. The organizers / jury reserve the right to withhold the Award not deemed to meet the required
standards in any category.

6. All material submitted for the Awards shall become the property of IIID and be deemed to have the
necessary publication rights. It can be used for publicity / documentation purpose without further
notification to or clearance from the participant concerned. The intellectual property rights of
the projects submitted by individuals employed by a third party are regulated by their respective
working contracts.

7. The Office Bearers of the National Executive Committee of IIID, the Awards Committee Members
and Office Bearers of ICPCI and others directly associated with the Awards are not eligible to
participate in the competition.

8. It is assumed that all information given by the participant is factual. If found otherwise, the entry
shall be disqualified and any awards/ certificate, if given, will be forfeited.

9. The Awards Night will be held on June 24, 2011 in Mumbai.
