PROGRAM IN
GALLARATE
FROM THE 26TH TO
THE 30TH MARCH
18/11/12
Monday 26th March 2012
It was the first day of the project Comenius. We arrived at school at 8:15 and we went to the aula magna, where we
listened to the headmaster, Antonio Vinci, who spoke about the school and the project. At this meeting the director
of the province, Alessandro Bonfanti, was also present. The headmaster spoke in Italian and our teacher, Patrizia
Fontana, translated his words into English. Later while all teachers shared ideas about the planning of the week, we
got in touch with other foreigners, who presented their country and their school. After a little break we divided into 4
groups and started a quiz. In this quiz there were questions about the culture of all the countries, which are in the
project Comenius. It was an opportunity to know better foreign cultures and we enjoyed the time. After this quiz we
went to the restaurant, called "La Fabbrica della pizza", and everyone ate pizza. In the afternoon we took part in a
treasure hunt in the center of Gallarate and it was an opportunity for the foreign to know our city. The winners won a
small size Ferrari. We had a great time. We came back and some of us had dinner at Mc'Donalds and then we played
bowling in the play room of Gallarate and we had a lot fun with our new foreign friends. It was only the first of 4
fantastic days.

Tuesday, 27th March
We met at 8:30 at school and we were all very excited because of the trip to Milan. We left at 9 o’clock
by bus and we arrived in Milan after an hour. We had prepared a text with some information about the
most beautiful sights of the city. At first we visited the Sforza Castle and we took some pictures; then
we walked to the Cathedral. After that we saw the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, where there’s a bull on the
floor and according to the tradition it brings luck to turn on it three times. Then we had a look at the Scala
Theatre and finally we saw the quadrilateral of fashion and the most important shopping streets. We ate
at 1 p.m. and then we had some free time to enjoy ourselves doing shopping and staying together. We
met again at the square of the Cathedral at 3.30 and we went together to the bus to come back home. We
arrived at school at 5.30 and then we went back home.

     18/11/12
Sforza Castle

Sforza Castle is a castle in Milan, Italy, that used to be the seat and residence of the Duchy
of Milan and one of the biggest citadels in Europe and now it houses several of the city's
museums and art collections.

   18/11/12
Quadrilateral Of Fashion
Milan is considered to be part of the “big four” global fashion capitals, which are New York City, Paris
and London.
In the “quadrilateral of fashion” there are the most prestigious shopping streets like: Via
Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Sant’Andrea, Via Manzoni and Corso Venezia, where you can find
shops of Dolce&Gabbana, Armani, Prada, Versace and so on…
In Piazza del Duomo, San Babila and Corso Buenos Aires there are other cheeper shops like H&M, Zara,
Benetton, Abercrombie and Fitch and so on…

    18/11/12
Scala Theatre
The Scala Theatre of Milan was built in 1776, besides being one of the most famous theaters in the world
it is known as the "Temple of opera", it is located in one of the most elegant squares of the city
called "Piazza della Scala."
On December 7th , the theater season is inaugurated, and on this date an important play is represented.
The audience is composed by important people (politicians, people of the show).

    18/11/12
The cathedral in Milan
Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) is the cathedral church of Milan. Dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente
(Saint Mary Nascent), it is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan, currently Cardinal Angelo Scola.
The Gothic cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. It is the fourth largest cathedral in the world
and the largest in the Italian state territory.

     18/11/12
Wednesday 28th March 2012
Theatre and sport
On Wednesday we did our performances and the foreigners acted out their shows. We did a sort of a parody of the
“Divine Comedy”, and it was so fun and hilarious. Then we went out from school to have lunch, but we divided into
groups and we went to different places.
After lunch, we came back to school and, after waiting some minutes, we played sport games. We were so excited to
have a serious match. Somebody played football in a sports area near the school, and the others played volleyball in the
school gym. The football match was won by the Italian group, and even a girl – Irene – scored a goal. Even if we were so
concentrated to win the match, we all managed to stay calm and the atmosphere was peaceful. There were 10 people
playing in the match, and a lot of guys and girls supported the players. In the school, only teachers remained to support
volleyball players.
For the night, a lot of students went to eat in a restaurant, and then we all went to a pub to see an important football
match of Champions League, Milan, the Italian team, against Barcelona.

    18/11/12
Thursday 29th March 2012
On Thursday we went to school at 8.45 a.m. The day’s program was the visit of the three Borromean islands in lake
Maggiore. We took the train at 9.30. a.m. We arrived at Stresa after 45 minutes. Then we walked to take the ferry boat.
The weather was sunny and warm and it would be a good day. We took two ferry boats and the trip lasted 20 minutes.
We arrived at the first island called Isola Bella and on this island we looked around the shops, bars and villas.
After ten minutes we reached the second island called Isola Pescatori. Here we stopped for lunch and everyone chose a
restaurant.
By ferry boat we came back to Stresa and we walked a bit round the town; we had a break in a bar and we ate an ice
cream and drank something. Here one of the two French teachers turned a somersault and he received a lot of
compliments and applauses. Then we left for Gallarate by train.
At the end we said goodbye to each other at school and we took many photos. We also received presents and sweets.
That evening some of us didn't go out because the day after we would get up very early to take the guest to the airport.
It was a good experience. Even though we were sceptical because of the differences between the people of the grove,
after the first day we all had over taken the embarrassment. We enjoyed it much and the languages weren't a problem
even when we had to talk in German or Spanish.

    18/11/12
Friday 30th March 2012
Unfortunately this was the last day of the Comenius project, because we had to drive our foreign friends to the airport
of Malpensa. Everyone was sad because everybody enjoyed his/her stay in Italy and we were very happy to host all
those guys. We drove the German guys to the airport and here we said goodbye to them. Then we went to school,
where there were the Turkish and the 2 Italian girls from Isola D'elba, because their flight was late in the morning and
we spent again some hours together.
We hope that everyone had fun here and we made our best to make them enjoy themselves. Even if we were from
different countries, we made a lot of new friends and we had the possibility to speak foreign languages. It was a real
cultural exchange because we shared different ideas and we learnt something from different cultures. We thought that
we had nothing in common, but we discovered that our differences were our strength. We are sorry that this
experience is over now, but we’ll always remember this unforgettable week.

We hope that everything will be positive in the next trips of the "Comenius".

    18/11/12
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…

18/11/12
When our teachers were in the hotel at night, the real life
began…

 18/11/12
We students spent the evenings enjoying
ourselves at McDonald’s or playing bowling…

18/11/12
Are we sure that our teachers will allow us to take part to
  other Comenius trips?

18/11/12
We all hope so!!!

  • 18. Wednesday 28th March 2012 Theatre and sport On Wednesday we did our performances and the foreigners acted out their shows. We did a sort of a parody of the “Divine Comedy”, and it was so fun and hilarious. Then we went out from school to have lunch, but we divided into groups and we went to different places. After lunch, we came back to school and, after waiting some minutes, we played sport games. We were so excited to have a serious match. Somebody played football in a sports area near the school, and the others played volleyball in the school gym. The football match was won by the Italian group, and even a girl – Irene – scored a goal. Even if we were so concentrated to win the match, we all managed to stay calm and the atmosphere was peaceful. There were 10 people playing in the match, and a lot of guys and girls supported the players. In the school, only teachers remained to support volleyball players. For the night, a lot of students went to eat in a restaurant, and then we all went to a pub to see an important football match of Champions League, Milan, the Italian team, against Barcelona. 18/11/12
  • 19. Thursday 29th March 2012 On Thursday we went to school at 8.45 a.m. The day’s program was the visit of the three Borromean islands in lake Maggiore. Here we stopped for lunch and everyone chose a restaurant. By ferry boat we came back to Stresa and we walked a bit round the town; we had a break in a bar and we ate an ice cream and drank something. Here one of the two French teachers turned a somersault and he received a lot of compliments and applauses. Then we left for Gallarate by train. At the end we said goodbye to each other at school and we took many photos. We also received presents and sweets. That evening some of us didn't go out because the day after we would get up very early to take the guest to the airport. It was a good experience. Even though we were sceptical because of the differences between the people of the grove, after the first day we all had over taken the embarrassment. We enjoyed it much and the languages weren't a problem even when we had to talk in German or Spanish. 18/11/12
  • 20. Friday 30th March 2012 Unfortunately this was the last day of the Comenius project, because we had to drive our foreign friends to the airport of Malpensa. Everyone was sad because everybody enjoyed his/her stay in Italy and we were very happy to host all those guys. We drove the German guys to the airport and here we said goodbye to them. Then we went to school, where there were the Turkish and the 2 Italian girls from Isola D'elba, because their flight was late in the morning and we spent again some hours together. We hope that everyone had fun here and we made our best to make them enjoy themselves. Even if we were from different countries, we made a lot of new friends and we had the possibility to speak foreign languages. It was a real cultural exchange because we shared different ideas and we learnt something from different cultures. We thought that we had nothing in common, but we discovered that our differences were our strength. We are sorry that this experience is over now, but we’ll always remember this unforgettable week. We hope that everything will be positive in the next trips of the "Comenius". 18/11/12
