- Brian Solis was born in 1970. He is a PR executive that coined the tern PR 2.0, which has to do with the change from traditional media to social medias. Futureworks is a company he founded in 1999. It is an online company that combines traditional outlets with online newer technologies. In 2008 he was named Silicon Valley’s 40 under 40. He was a cofounder of the Social Media Club a national organization which hosts events o share practices, establishing standards and promoting social media. He is an original member of the Media 2.0 Workgroup. He co-wrote two book, “Putting Public back in Pubic Relations,” and “Now is Gone” which won an Axiom Business Book Award. He has had blogs that have helped with many programs and teamed up in many Twitter projects.
- Deirdre Breakenridge was born June 3, 1966. She is a veteran in the PR industry and a published author. She is a published author as well as an editor in the PRSA newsletter. She is the current President and Executive Director of Communications at PFS Marketwyse, a marketing communications agency located in Totowa, New Jersey . Her four books include “Brand Building in the Digital Economy”, “ The new PR Toolkit,” “PR 2.0: New Media, New Tools, New Audience,” and “Putting the Public back in Public Relations.” Along with her achievements in PR, she is highly involved in her community volunteering at the Overpeck Riding Center, where she helps take care of horses. She is also an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey where she taught courses on public relations and interactive marketing for the Global Business Management program. They also help with the internship program at the college. Her company also does pro-bono work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation , The Pharmaceutical Safety Institute, and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
- Social medias are becoming the biggest way for companies to get their name out to their audience. The old way of getting information out is starting to merge with the new technologies and the PR world is moving with it. Blogging has become an outlet equal to journalism. I also learned how important your personal profile is on social medias, they are what professionals in your field as well as the rest of the world see and gives them their first impression about you, so it is important not to have anything hurtful to your life.
- When you just sit down and think about it, it’s surprising to think of how important the internet is becoming to the Public Relations world. It is where the future of the industry is going. I never thought about how wide spread and influential what is on the internet can be. There is a new form of word of mouth that reacts far more people now than before with the use of blogging and different social media networks such as Twitter. The idea of PR 2.0 seems like such an obvious idea but when they actually talked about the mixture of the new ways of getting information out it was surprising to see the growth.
- I think it will be interesting to watch the popularity of the social media networks and see how they grow or change in the future. This will help determine how influence it will continue to gain. It will also be interesting to see if colleges respond to the growth of social networks and make classes about it or incorporate these ideas into there preexisting classes. I also want to see what other information comes out on this subject.
- I think that this book is very helpful to anyone in the PR field. It gives insight on where the field is going along with what needs to be learned when using the social media networks and all types if outlets on the internet. Since these type of media is growing so fast it is easy to see why it is so important in this field and how helpful it will be to know how to use it correctly. It is especially important to student newly in the field because of how familiar they already are with social medias and how much that will help them if they can use the knowledge in a professional matter.
