What is Muscle <ul><li>Muscle is the contractile tissue of animal, which is derived from the mesodermal layer of embryonic germ cells. </li></ul><ul><li>It is a bundle of many cells called fibers. A muscle fiber contains many myofibriles, a protein that allow a muscle cell to contract. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Types of Muscle <ul><li>Cardiac Muscle </li></ul><ul><li>Skeletal Muscle </li></ul><ul><li>Smooth Muscle </li></ul>
  4. 4. Skeletal Muscle <ul><li>This is the type of muscle that can be felt and seen. A skeletal muscle is attached to the skeleton and comes in pairs. The contraction of a skeletal muscle is voluntary. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Smooth Muscle <ul><li>It maintains tension for a long period of time. it is found in the digestive system, the bladder, blood vessels, uterus. It contracts involuntary. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Cardiac Muscle <ul><li>As the name sounds, cardiac muscle is located in the heart. It is also known as myocardium. The thick muscle of the heart contracts to pump blood out and then relax to let blood back in after it has circulated through the body. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Physiology of the Muscle <ul><li>All the types of muscle requires movement of actin against myosin to generate contraction. Cardiac and smooth muscle contraction are generated by internal pace maker cell. The contraction of skeletal muscle is stimulated by electrical impulses which is transmitted by the nerves. However, all skeletal and many of smooth muscle contractions are stimulated through a neurotransmitter known as acetycholine. </li></ul>
