This presentation was created by Ioanna Leontiou and it is intended as a creative and flexible tool for students on Biological sciences who focus on the chromosome segregation. It is created to facilitate students performing research projects in our lab (especially during Covid restrictions), but it is suitable for every student who wants to learn more about chromosomes and the molecular mechanism controlling chromosome segregation. The presentation includes a generic overview of the cell division, illustrates the chromosome structure and provides molecular details of the spindle assembly checkpoint, an important pathway that ensures high fedility of chromosome segregation through mitosis. It also includes an introduction to some of the molecular biology techniques used in a yeast lab and incoporates some fluorescent microscopy images/videos. At the end of the presentantion there is a list of open access scientific publications for further reading on the the molecular mechanism of spindle checkpoint and some links of some very interesting sites, which include a range of videos on laboratory molecular biology techniques, research talks and guided papers. The purpose of this presentantion is to create a piece of work that students could return to when needed. Diagramms and illustrations are also encouranged to be used by scientists, science communicators and educators. This presentation is licensed under a Creative Common Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0), unless otherwise stated on the specific slide.

ValĆ©rie DEFFONTAINE, R&D Scientist, Quality Assistance Webinar held on 8th June 2017. The discovery of human pluripotent stem cells 10 years ago turned the spotlight on the potential of pluripotent stem cells for personalised cell therapy. The scientific interest then quickly shifted towards the use of these cells for safety pharmacology, drug discovery and disease modelling. For all these purposes, in the mid to long term, properly characterised cell banks will be necessary.Ā The characterisation of embryonic (ESC) and induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC) used for manufacturing requires the development and validation of analytical methods (e.g. flow cytometry, microscopy, QPCR and bioassays). Cell characterisation includes the testing of cell product identity, determination of impurities, and assessment of biological activity and viability. Among the techniques available, flow cytometry is widely used to assess the expression of cell markers. Our laboratory has developed flow cytometry panels dedicated to the characterisation of extracellular and intracellular markers of ESC and IPSC, and to the detection of cell-related impurities. We proposed a method for the validation of flow cytometry panels according to the recommendations of international guidelines on the validation of analytical methods. IPSC differentiated into cardiomyocytes and MSC-like cells were also used to test the performance of our flow cytometry panels to accurately monitor the manufacturing process of cell products. In addition to the technical tips, this webinar aims at presenting a critical view on the use of flow cytometry platform for cell characterisation.Ā For more information, visit http://www.quality-assistance.com/analytical-services/CBMPs

InĀ shotgun sequencingĀ the genome is broken randomly into short fragments (1 to 2Ā kbp long) suitable for sequencing. The fragments are ligated into a suitable vector and then partially sequenced. Around 400ā500Ā bp of sequence can be generated from each fragment in a single sequencing run. In some cases, both ends of a fragment are sequenced. Computerized searching for overlaps between individual sequences then assembles the complete sequence.

Cloning is the process of producing genetically identical individuals of an organism either naturally or artificially. It is the process of taking genetic information from one living thing and creating identical copies of it. The copied material is called a clone. Nature has been doing it for millions of years. For example, identical twins have almost identical DNA, and asexual reproduction in some plants and organisms can produce genetically identical offspring. Cloning in biotechnology refers to the process of creating clones of organisms or copies of cells or DNA fragments (molecular cloning).

Ammari *Q, Muath G. ALGhadi G, Ramzi A. Amran, Nawal M. Al Malahi and Ahmad R. Alhimaidi Department of Zoology, College of Science, King Saud University, PO. Box 2455, Riyadh 11451, Saudi Arabia * Correspondence: alammari@ksuedu.si Simple Summary: Interspecies SCNT-based cloning and in vitro production of interspecies SCNTderived embryos allows cells that have undergone terminal differentiation to be reprogrammed to become totipotent cells. The development of the interspecific Somatic cell nuclear transfer oryx in vitro for the first time in Saudi Arabia will promote additional research on animal reproductive doning for the preservation of endangered species. Abstract: Cloning, commonly referred to as somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), is the technique of enucleating an oocyte and injecting a somatic cell into it. This study was carried out with interspecific SCNT technology to clone the Arabian Oryx utilizing the oryx's fibroblast cells and transfer it to the enucleated oocytes of a domestic cow. The recipient oocytes were extracted from the cows that had been butchered. Oryx somatic nuclei were introduced into cow oocytes to produce embryonic cells. The study was conducted on three groups, Oryx interspecific somatic cell nuclear transfer into enucleated cocytes of domestic cows, cow SCNT "the same bovine family species", used as a control group, and in vitro fertilized (IVF) cows to verify all media used in this work. The rates of different embryo developmental stages varied slightly (from 1-cell to morula stage). Additionally, the oryx check for interspecies Somatic cell nuclear transfer blastocyst developmental rate (9.23%) was comparable to that of cow SCNT (8.33\%). While the blastula stage rate of the (IVF) cow embryos exhibited a higher Citation: Ammari, A.A; cleavage rate (42%) in the embryo development stage. The results of this study enhanced domestic ALGhadi, M.G: Amran, RA: cow oocytes' ability to support interspecific SCNT cloned oryx, and generate a viable embryo that Al Malahi, N.M.: Alhimaidi, A.R. can advance to the blastula stage. The presentation explores the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) from its inception to its current status in the modern world. The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society. The development from theoretical concepts to real-world applications illustrates both the potential benefits and the challenges that come with integrating advanced technologies into everyday life. The ongoing discussion about AI ethics and regulation underscores the importance of managing these technologies responsibly to maximize their their benefits while minimizing potential harms.
