1. Hypnotize Anyone!
The Power of Covert Hypnosis (also Known as
Conversational Hypnosis)
Did you know there's a way to hypnotize people without their actually being
aware of it? It's called quot;conversational hypnosis, quot; or “covert hypnosis,”
and the fact is, you might be using it without even being aware you're using
it yourself.
Before we go any further, watch this quick video on
just how powerful this technique is -- itʼs pretty amazing
what can be done when this power is in the wrong
hands!
Basically, whenever you convince someone to do
something within the course of conversation, without
that person being aware of it, you may be using
conversational hypnosis. (And by the same token, you
may have also been an unwitting subject of
conversational hypnosis.)
However, it was hypnotist and psychotherapist Milton
Erickson who formally defined conversational hypnosis
as a formal technique.
Erickson was unique in his field because he believed

works!
2. Erickson's technique was revolutionary because he also theorized that
trying to directly induce a trance state in the subject or trying to make
suggestions to them directly may cause them to resist.
Because of this, quot;directivesquot; worked into a conversation very subtly
were much more likely to be effective. There are several steps to
performing conversational hypnosis.
Here they are...
Establish Rapport
The first step in conversational
hypnosis is that one must
establish a rapport with the
subject. This can pretty simple to
establish in that you agree with
what someone is saying.
For example, if the subject says
that something is hopeless, you
agree with them and say that it is,
indeed, hopeless.

confuse the issue at hand. For
example, it if your subject says that
something is hopeless, and you
have just agreed as well that the
situation is hopeless.
3. Then, you confuse the issue by saying something to the effect of, quot; But are
you absolutely sure it's not hopeless? What if such-and-such would
happen? Would it still be hopeless?quot;
So, sometimes people think this is a sneaky “trick.” But in reality, if you use
it the right way, itʼs nothing more than simple persuasion at work. (Click
here to see why this works and how to use it the right way.)
Besides opening up the issue to an alternative view, you can also confuse
the issue by further agreeing and therefore subtly prodding the other
person to resist or disagree with you.
For example, you could expand upon your earlier agreement with your
subject's assertion that the situation is hopeless, and then say, quot;No one in
the world could ever fix that, quot; or, quot; There's absolutely nothing that could be
done to fix that; you're right.quot;
Another way to confuse the issue is to so totally agree with the subject's
point of view that you encourage that person to continue to do more of the
same behavior or even dig deeper into their seemingly intractable point of
view.
For example, you've agreed with them that the situation is hopeless
already, so you can say, quot;Yep, you can just sit down and give up. You're
right; it's hopeless. In fact, we should all just give up. There's no use.quot;
Implant Suggestion
Now that you've got your subject thoroughly confused, the next and final
thing to do is to subtly suggest something you want the person to agree to.
In the above example, you're trying to get the subject to agree with you or
see that the situation is not hopeless after all, or at least to try to get them
to be a little less intractable.
(Oftentimes, conversational hypnosis works in degrees. You begin
conversational hypnosis with one conversation, leave it off at a certain
4. point, and then pick it up in another
conversation as a continuation to
continue the process.)
Once you've gotten to this point,
you can begin to make suggestions
to the person like, quot; You seem to be
feeling a little less hopeless. Am I
right about that?quot;
This opens the door for the person
to begin to agree that yes, indeed,
he or she doesn't feel like the

among other amazing feats.
It should be noted that in some cases, the conversions have not lasted and
people once again revert to previous beliefs, as often happens in regular
hypnosis as well.
Nonetheless, this is a very effective technique and one that has been
successfully used by many people.
