My headed is black bold and to the point, ‘Beat It’, this is written in a large text at the top of my page, with having a white background, the black text really stands out to the reader. My magazine is not based on one particular genre, however it is based on up to date general chart music. I have used typical conventions when creating this magazine, the image on my front cover consists of direct address, also to ensure my front cover image fit the contents of my magazine, I had my model modeling a modern handbag which shows that it is also a fashion magazine as well as a music magazine. I went for a very modern look to my magazine by my choice to have a white background, many of magazines I have seen do not do this, however I think this worked really well with my magazine and it really helped the text stand out and it give the modern look to the magazine I was looking for. The feedback on my questionnaire for my magazine state that the majority of people have said that my front cover appears to be very genuine and it interests them to read more, therefore I feel that the elements I used to create my magazine worked.
My magazine consists of music stars and celebrities, these big names will be used to draw the audience in to my magazine. I wanted my magazine to consist of idols for females; therefore the artists need to appear to be inspirational, therefore my model on the front cover needed to look stylish and appealing to my target audience. Also based on the age range I am aiming for it will be very appropriate to catch there eye by also having good looking male artists in the magazine. I have used young language throughout the project on my magazine without using very technical wording, as my magazine is based for the young adult audience.
A very similar type of magazine to mine, that I have come across during my research is blender magazine. As my magazine is also a fashion magazine, funding could come from fashion brands that would like to advertise in the magazine, also music artists will pay to advertise gigs in the magazine, as this is promoting the artist. I feel that my magazine is different from many of the typical music magazines that appear in the main shops such as Q, as my magazine is just aimed for the female audience, there is very little music magazines that do this, also my magazine will draw my magazine to the correct type of audience as it consists of interests of typical females, E.G fashion.
As I have stated my magazine will be targeted at the female audience, the age I have targeted for is from the age of 16 to the age of around 24. A lot of magazines that are targeted for this audience are American E.G Seventeen magazine, therefore I am aiming my audience at a British audience, this opens my magazine to a large target audience, as at these ages my target audience are likely to be students or in a not very well paid job, therefore my magazine had to be affordable for them. According to my target audience the feedback from my questionnaire was mostly positive; therefore I feel I achieved what I wanted to.
I made sure the articles stated on the front cover would appeal to my target audience, I had my main article in a larger font and at the top of the page, also on the front cover was ‘must have looks of the season’ and another I had was ‘top 40 sexiest male artists’ I have used a teenage language style when wording the articles on the front cover, therefore it is easy for the audience to relate to the magazine themselves. My choice of title is to state to the audience that there is no other magazine quite like mine and it is unbeatable. I felt like image on the front cover was very important when attracting my audience, therefore I used a very basic pose with a little bit of attitude, with the model having her hand on her hip, but this attitude is balanced out by the smile on her face. I have cut my model out so she just has a white background, I feel this magazine makes it look modern and gives the writing a chance to stand out. On the contents page I chose to have just seven articles listed and also a short regulars list, I did this as I wanted to carry on the look from the front cover into the contents page, but I made the text also smaller on the contents page so I could fit more on. For my double page spread I related to my artist in the title as ‘Pop sensation Maisie’ therefore the audience straight away know that this a very popular artist, and also i stated in the article that Maisies first hit was called ‘setting the record straight’ so I then used this as a sub-heading to the article as she was ‘setting the record straight’ on her engagement. I picked to have one large image for the article, my model on this image looks very mysterious, this is to represent that she has been mysterious for the past few months on her engagement rumors.
At the start of the project I had a lot of research to do to get to the point of knowing exactly what I wanted to do for my magazine, for the entire part of the research I used the internet, I used Google to find other magazine that were similar to the type I was aiming for, as most of these magazine were American, I couldn’t have done this without the facility of the internet. I used the programme in-design to create my magazine cover, contents page and feature article, without this my magazine would of looked very amateur and not professional at all. I also used the programme paintshop when I cropped the image of my model for my front cover, without these programmes I would not of been able to create my magazine. I also used technology when creating my audience feedback, I used Microsoft word to create my questionnaire and I printed it off 10 times, then I used technology to create pie charts to show my feedback clearly.
Looking back on my preliminary task, I can instantly tell the progress I have made, and you can also tell there is a big difference in time that I took between these two front covers. There is a big difference in quality of the image on the covers, the lighting on my preliminary task is much darker and not as appealing, have a image with bad lighting on a front cover would not stand out the audience. The layout cover of my preliminary task is very boring, and the front cover only consists of very basic fonts, however with my final project, I have used a very modern text and also used more colour. The colour I have used in my preliminary task is yellow; this doesn’t really link with much in my image, however I have used the same shade of pink and the models handbag for the text in my final project. Over all my final project looks a lot more professional from all features in the cover, from the text, to the image, to the barcode etc.
Over all I feel my finished final project turned out just as I hoped, I feel that the layout and font of the texts I have used make the magazine appear very professional, and also gives off a modern look to the magazine however I feel that I could maybe of added another article to put onto the front cover making it look fuller.
