Introduction to Aerospace Transportation Systems Exam Questions and Answers

  • 1. www.studentyogi.com www.studentyogi.com Code No: R05222105 Set No. 1 II B.Tech II Semester Supplimentary Examinations, Aug/Sep 2008 INTRODUCTION TO AEROSPACE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS (Aeronautical Engineering) Time: 3 hours Max Marks: 80 Answer any FIVE Questions All Questions carry equal marks 1. What were the principle features of the “Wright Flyer”. Explain with sketches the lift generated for its sustainable ight. [16] 2. Calculate pressure, density and temperature at an altitude of 13000m in stratosphere. Develop the relationship used. The sea level data is; P = 101325 2, T = 150 , L = 0.0065 K /m. [16] 3. (a) Describe with adequate sketches/diagrams/illustrations, ma jor components of an airplane. What is the use of each component? (b) Explain the construction of its wing in details, considering it to be a two seat light weight, trainer airplane. List the materials of its fabrication. [8+8] 4. (a) Prove that the velocities for minimum power and minimum drag in straight and level ight of airplane can be obtained from the Power vs Velocity plot. (b) An airplane weighs 5000 N and has a wing loading of 600 -2 . If its drag polar is D =0.010 +0.022 L2, determine its velo city for minimum power in straight and level ight. [8+8] 5. (a) You are to plan for adding a small civil trainer airplane for a small ying club in a remote village. Spell out the role and justi cation for the airplane under considerations. (b) What are the steps to be taken for planning the schedule of next ight afresh from station P to station Q, over ying stations A,B and C? Prepare the plans for approval of the authorities. Name such authorities. [8+8] 6. (a) Explain the safety of airplane from the airworthiness of the total components taken as an integrated unit. (b) A uid possesses faster cooling properties at lower altitudes and becomes less e cient at higher altitudes. Provide your reasoning and remedies to the prob- lem. [8+8] 7.
