How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? <ul><li>Our main product is a short opening sequence to a children’s TV drama entitled ‘Eye-Spy-High’ The TV Drama focuses on a school in which mysterious crimes take place and it is the job of the students to solve them. The opening sequence has a spy theme and the audience is shown shots from around the school and typical school iconography, using typical codes and conventions of a Children’s TV Drama. </li></ul><ul><li>Our ancillary products included a Magazine cover and a DVD cover for the series, we used similar props in both the opening sequence and the images for the front of the mag/DVD cover. The combination of both of these with our main product would draw in a large audience of our target ages of 11 – 15, both products are colourful, aesthetically pleasing and relate with the viewer/reader. </li></ul>

What have you learned about your audience feedback? <ul><li>From conducting questionnaires about our final product to children of our target age, we learned: </li></ul><ul><li>3/5 children find the product appealing. </li></ul><ul><li>7/10 children would watch the programme after viewing the opening sequence. </li></ul><ul><li>½ children find the film footage most appealing in the title sequence. </li></ul><ul><li>2/5 children don’t find the writing catchy/easy to read, this is something we could have improved on. </li></ul><ul><li>4/5 children find the graphics attractive. </li></ul><ul><li>All the children we asked believe the product suited their age group. </li></ul><ul><li>9/10 children think the effects used are suitable for the sequence. </li></ul>

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? <ul><li>We used a DV300 camera to record our product, then moving on to edit using Final Cut, we found Final Cut difficult at times and hard to follow, but eventually it enabled us to work with blue screen easier. We filmed using a blue screen so we could combine moving images with animated backgrounds. We did this on Final Cut by applying a background filter to eliminate any blue and replace it with our own animated backgrounds. </li></ul><ul><li>We produced a theme tune using Garage Band, at first we attempted to create our own piece, however it didn’t sound very convincing as a spy-theme tune. Therefore we used a sound bite and put it on a loop, repeating itself. Overall I think the music we used is one of the most appealing aspects of the product itself. </li></ul><ul><li>We made and edited our Magazine and DVD Cover using a Nikon D60 camera and Adobe Photoshop, using various effects and filters to create colourful and aesthetically pleasing ancillary products. </li></ul>

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? <ul><li>Our product is stereotypical in it’s codes and conventions of typical children’s drama, as the viewer is shown the mise-en-scene of a school. And the use of childish animations are a common occurrence in TV opening sequences such as Tracey Beaker. We have developed this idea by not just have animations, but moving images as well, aided with the use of blue screen technology. The product is also typical of other media products in it’s use of transitions and effects including slow-mo and fast speed. </li></ul><ul><li>Overall I feel that we, as a group have created a product which both develops and challenges forms and conventions of similar, real media products, both by sticking to stereotypical styles using an obscure technique. </li></ul>
