  1. PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PRESENTED BY GURURAJ KULKARNI GUEST FACULTY POLICE TRAINING COLLEGE NAGANHALLI KALBURAGI GULBARGA
  2. MEANING OF PERSONALITY  Personality is the ’whole nature or character of a person.’  How a person behaves, feels and thinks, how he conducts himself in a given set of circumstances is largely determined by the state of his mind.
  3. MIND PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONALITY  Four Functions of the Mind.  Memory  Deliberation and Conceptualization.  Determination and Decision-making.  ’I’ Consciousness.
  4.  1. Memory: The storehouse of memory and impressions of our past experiences presents various possibilities before the mind.  The impressions of our thoughts and actions—good and bad—are stored.
  5.  2. Deliberation and Conceptualization:  The Mind deliberates on several things.  Imagination and formation of concepts are also functions of the mind.  ..
  6.  3. Determination and Decision- making:  It has the capacity to judge the pros and cons of things and find what is more desirable.  It is also the discriminative faculty in a person, which enables him to discriminate between the real and the unreal, between what is to be done and what is to be avoided, what is morally right and what is wrong
  7.  4. ’I’ Consciousness:  Appropriating to oneself all physical and mental activities eg, ‘I eat’, ‘I see’, ‘I talk’, ‘I hear’, ‘I think’, ‘I am confused’, etc.
  8.  As long as the ’I’ identifies itself with the undisciplined body-mind complex, human life is dictated by events and circumstances of the world; we become happy with pleasurable events, and miserable with adverse circumstances.
  9. SOME ESSENTIAL QUALITIES FOR PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT  Faith in Oneself:  faith in one’s potential divinity as the sheet anchor of personality development.  Think Positive Thoughts:  Positive, wholesome thoughts based on our inherent divinity are essential for a strong character.
  10.  Go on doing good, thinking holy thoughts continuously, that is the only way to suppress base impressions.  Character is repeated habits and repeated habits alone can reform character.
  11.  Attitude towards Failures and Mistakes:  If a person failed a thousand times.  He appreciated committing mistakes and learning from them rather than leading an inert existence like a wall, which cannot even tell a lie.
  12.  Self-reliance:  Man is the maker of his own destiny, said Swamy Vivekanand:  We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be,  we have the power to make ourselves
  13.  Renunciation and Service:  The selfless service as a paramount means to character development.  Renunciation of selfishness and desire for the fruits of action.
  14.  Man is divine.  Pleasure Is Not the Goal.
  15. How to Change Our Character?  Man’s character is determined by the sum total of these impressions.  If good impressions prevail, the character becomes good.  If bad, it becomes bad.  If a man continuously hears bad words, thinks bad thoughts, does bad actions, his mind will be full of bad impressions; and they will influence his thought and work without his being conscious of the fact.
  16.  If a man thinks good thoughts and does good works, the sum total of these impressions will be good; and they, in a similar manner, will force him to do good even in spite of himself.  When a man has done so much good work and thought so many good thoughts that there is an irresistible tendency in him to do good.
  17.  Influence of Thought:  If good thoughts influence on a man he will do good.  If a man thinks bad we will do bad according to the influence of thoughts.  Bravery, courage, honesty, and morality thinking are the strong influence of thoughts.  
  18.  Control Your Negative Emotions:  If a man controls negative emotions such as anger, jealousy, aggressiveness, antagonistic, arrogant, Impatient etc he will be dynamic person.
  19.  Change Yourself First.  Take the Whole Responsibility on Yourself.  Work Like a Master.  Doing Good to This World.  Unselfishness Will Bring Success.  It Is Love That Pays.  Weakness Is Death.  Be Brave but shouldn’t be coward.
  20.  Be a Hero or leader of the world.  If it is not possible for you be a hero of your society or family.  Faith in oneself.  Imitation is bad. Shouldn’t imitate but create your own image.  Be ethical in every step of your personal and social life.
  21.  Hold On to the Ideal. Follow good ideals  The Power of Concentration. It makes you perfect person in the world.  Develop the Sense of Equality.  Be Free.  March On.- The body endures, speak unto others this message of fearlessness: “Thou art That”, “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is
