๏ฑ Haridwar and Rishikesh to be twin cities
The Central Government announced that it will develop the pilgrim cities Haridwar and Rishikesh into
twin cities to boost tourism. The plan is to develop the Ganga ghats in Haridwar and Rishikesh to attract
large numbers of foreign tourists. The Uttarakhand state government was also assured of the Union
Governmentโs support in developing Kedarnath and Tehri as popular tourist destinations.
๏ฑ Delhi roads to be redesigned
The Delhi government has decided to redesign roads more than 60 feet wide to decongest the city. The
redesigning of 1,260 km of roadway will include 300-400 km of bus transit corridors, but no passenger
parking will be built. The initial work will include four stretches โ Netaji Subhash Place to Rithala Metro
station, Vikas Marg, Patel Nagar Chowk to Moti Nagar Chowk and Britannia Chowk to Outer Ring Road.
Where ever possible, cycle tracks, greenery, wide footpaths and benches will be put in with hawkers to
maintain the liveliness of the roads.
๏ฑ Analytics city for West Bengal
The West Bengal government has proposed to set up an analytics city near Kalyani Township in Nadia
district, in association with the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I). The government will
hold an e-auction inviting bids for land for the Sammriddhi-Kalyani Analytics City next month. The project
would come up on 52 acres of land offered by the state government at an investment of Rs 3,000 crore
and take about three years to complete. Based on the response, it may be expanded to 250 acres at an
estimated INR 6,000 crore with the completion time extended to 6 years. The project is one of six smart
cities planned by the state.
๏ฑ Road upgradation in Jammu and Kashmir
The center has sanctioned INR 4,000 crore for state-wide road upgradation in Jammu and Kashmir in the
fiscal 2015-2016. The stateโs roads sector suffered massive destruction in last year's floods and the
restoration and reconstruction programme is necessary to improve services. To start with, 100 km in
Poonch been targeted for restoration and macadamization.
๏ฑ Bihar gets INR 1.25 lakh crore development package
The Prime Minister announced an INR 1.25 lakh crore development package for national and state
highways in Bihar. In addition, the Union government has launched several road and power projects in
the state, worth another INR 40,000 crore. Thus, a total of INR 1.65 lakh crore will be invested for
development in Bihar.

2. ๏ฑ Goa government to set up two IT parks
In a bid to establish Goa as an information technology hub, the government has proposed to set up two IT
parks in the next three to five years. This will help more than 2,000 IT professionals in the state who are
forced to cross the border due to lack of job opportunities.
๏ฑ Mega food parks to start operations
The Ministry of Food Processing has announced that all 42 of the mega food parks sanctioned in 2008-09,
will become operational by 2019. Involving an investment of INR 14,000 crore, the food parks would to
benefit nearly 12.5 lakh farmers and generate about 3-4 lakh jobs. In March 2015, 17 of the 42 projects
were allotted to state governments and private firms. Mega food parks are instrumental in helping the
food processing industry to achieve faster growth by providing facilities to farmers, food processors,
exporters and retailers.
๏ฑ Madhya Pradesh to set up Diamond Park
Madhya Pradesh, the only diamond producing state in the country, has proposed to set up a Diamond
Park on 254 acres area at Rangwasa village in Indore, under PPP (Public Private Partnership)
mode. Domestic industries and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will be established on 120.03 acres and
134.2 acres, respectively. Of the 134.2 acres of SEZ, industrial plots will require 44.52 acres of land, while
township, hotel, auditorium, school, hospital, training centre, administrative building among others will
be constructed on 53.33 acres. Private developers will utilize the remaining 36.47 acres of land to
develop basic amenities like water, roads, electricity, boundary wall, streetlights, sewer network,
plantation, common effluent treatment plant, and such like.
๏ฑ Rainwater harvesting systems mandatory for government projects
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has declared the mandatory development of rainwater harvesting
system in all government projects. Projects, including flyovers and bridges, will be approved only if it is
stipulated in their tender documents that a rainwater harvesting system will also be developed on it. An
officer will be assigned to ensure that the rainwater harvesting system already installed or to be installed
are functioning efficiently. Every project, other than those located in areas with relatively high level of
water table, need to follow this order. A committee will be set up to certify the areas where the
groundwater level is high and the rainwater harvesting system is not required.
๏ฑ Two new bridges to connect Noida and Faridabad
The Haryana government cleared the proposal of the Noida Authority to construct two bridges on the
Yamuna river connecting Noida and Faridabad. The bridges will be developed 17 km away from the
Kalindi Kunj bridge, near sector 168 and 149A of Noida. This will reduce travel time and ease traffic.

๏ฑ NBWL clears NH7 expansion
The National Board of Wildlife (NBWL) Standing Committee granted clearance for four laning the 40 km
Kanha - Pench tiger corridor of NH 7, at an estimated cost of INR 100 crore, amid strong resistance. The
environment ministry has pledged to take strong measures to ensure the protection of wildlife. The
Wildlife Institute of India has proposed that six elevated roads and nine flyovers be built to avoid
disruption to the movement of tigers and wildlife.
