- The promise of technology is simple: a tool to reduce time, space and cost and improve your life. The plow gives the farmer more crop, or more time with his family.
- Since we are in the mobile phone business mainly, I view technology as a mean of improving communication. Between people. And there was a time when we only communication person to person without any tool between us. The first technology to become a layer was writing. Or smoke signals maybe...
- But as the industrial age, with all its promises of efficiency came, more and more people spent their awake time communicating person to machine, with no other human at the end. And even worse, the tools of communication improved the time-space-cost ratio, but at the cost of personality.
- And unfortunately it still is that way. Email, PM:s, reports, sms, etc. The only axis of personality is how you phrase yourself. But how much room is there to be an individual in a report...
- But - I’m not anti-technology. Quite the contrary. But I think we should re-think how we accept technology. It should enable us to do new things we like, it should save us time, money and space. For example: This couple met on Facebook. Does that make their relationship less real? No. Was it possible to meet people before Facebook? Yes. Has it become easier? Yes.
- And I think machines should be invisible. You should not think about them as an item. Glasses - are they technology? Pens? Or just an elongation and augmentation of you?
- So TAT’s quest is to remove the notion of machines and technology, or at least make them human... (mov = 2 min) In Augmented ID we wanted to play with both identity, expression, commercialism, as well as making the distance between people smaller. And I know many feel that your identity it at risk. But I think we just haven’t gotten used to this. Don’t you like the bartender of your favorite bar to know your favorite drink and your preferred seat? When does it become intrusive? And would you not talk to a woman on the subway if you realized she grew up in your little hamlet? Or that she also in love with the simplicity of IKEA furniture? Or that she just got fired? When is she an expressionist? Or an adpillar?
