The document outlines an agenda that includes opening activities like poetry and a video. It then discusses a modified fish bowl technique for group discussion that involves taking turns speaking and self-monitoring time. Next, it addresses split page note taking and having conversations in sequences. Guidelines for lifting a moratorium on school visits are reviewed. Finally, the agenda closes with generating scenarios for challenging conversations using index cards.
1. Welcome!
Opening Activities:
•How about a bit of poetry, compliments of
Denise?
•How about a video, compliments of Ron,
who was NOT given the video idea
• from Sharon….
3. Modified Fish Bowl…
A way to collect and reflect on the thinking
of the group…
Some guidelines…
1.Two seats generally remain empty
2.People move in and out of the fishbowl
3.Give airtime priority to those who step in…
4.Questions are important, and don’t always require
answers.
5.Consciously self-monitor airtime:
•Brevity matters
•Once you’ve spoken, allow at least 2-3 others to
speak…
•Be aware of the “traffic” in and out of the fishbowl
6. Lifting the moratorium on intra-
district visits
•Document: guidelines and
procedures
•Clarifications?
•Revisions?
•Feedback?
7. Scenario Work…
First we’ll use 3x5 Cards to generate the scenarios…
On each card, write down the context of one
challenging conversation you’ve faced or
avoided recently… If you’ve avoided the
conversation, also put down what you fear
might happen if you engage this person in the
conversation…
