• -What did it do to the power of monarchies? Limited there power
• -How was this a form of "rule of law"? Because they had to
actually follow rules and get things aproved, limiting there
power.

• -Who took over as King of this country? William of Orange
• -What document changed the power of Kings forever and was a
result of this revolution? English Bill of Rights

Rights
• -When was it written? 1689
• -In two sentences, explain what it did?
• - It finished the idea of Divine Kingship once and for all
• - Began a trend in Europe against monarchy
• - Gave more power to elected officials

5. he Enlightenment
• -In two sentences, describe what the enlightenment. - The enlightenment was
a philosophic movement of the 18th century. It was marked marked by a
rejection of traditional social, religious, and political ideas and an emphasis
on rationalism.
• -When did it take place? 18th century
• -Why is it important? - It rejected the idea that we should accept anything the
Church says as truth just because the church says it was true. Enlightenment
philosophers reasoned that knowledge had to be based on practical,
scientific evidence. Traditions or religious articles were not a source for
truth, because those ways of achieving truth vary a lot. Most of the
Enlightenment thinkers did not deny God or religion. Rather, they believed
that God had created a reasonable world that they could perceive the
principles by which it worked through scientific observation.

• -What is he most famous for? His articulations of the
seperations of power.

• -Where was he from? England
• -Lifespan? August 29, 1632 - October 28, 1704
• -What are natural rights? (two sentences) The basic rights that
everyone has. No one can interfer with these rights.

8. Jean Jacques Rousseau
• -Where was he from? France
• -Lifespan? June 28, 1712 - July 2, 1778
• -What is the Social Contract? (two sentences) A theory that in
early history, no government existed. Man made his own laws
and morals to live by

9. Thomas Jefferson
• -Where was he from? Virginia
• -What is he most famous for writing? The Declaration of
Independence
• -Why did he switch the words from "property" to "the pursuit of
happiness"? Pursuit of happiness was a more universal term.
