2. My media product is the introduction to a fiction film, therefore, the media institution that will distribute my ‘film’ will be a movie production company.
3. What a Production Company does? The production company is responsible for supervising the film from ‘concept to completion’. They ultimately reap in the fame and financial awards if the movie is successful, however, suffer badly if the film fails. They are the people who pitch to the studios, employ the writers and create the budgets, etc. They are responsible for hiring nearly all the key players in the film from the director to the actors. A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for releasing films to the public either theatrically or for home viewing (DVD, Video-On-Demand, Download, Television etc). It is often referred to as 'the invisible art‘. The distribution process is known only to those within the industry, it’s barely written about and almost hardly noticeable to everyone else. Yet arguably, distribution is the most important part of the film industry, where completed films are brought to life and connected with an audience. Distribution is about releasing and sustaining films in the market place. In the UK, distribution is very much focused on marketing and sustaining a global product in local markets.
