PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Hello Everyone,
Last Monday night we were treated to an excellent presentation by Claire Thompson
and Mark Wallace, who provided great insight into the GSE Team visit to England,
back in April. It was interesting to hear about all the fantastic vocational visits that
the Team were offered, together with great feedback on the warmth and kindness of the
Rotary families who hosted the Team during their trip. It sounds as if the
organisation in the UK was excellent, with the trip providing the Team with a truly
memorable experience. It is encouraging to recognise our Club’s role in assisting to
make this possible for Claire, through our sponsorship. Claire has made it very clear
that she hopes to maintain a long term relationship with the Club Members of The Hills
Kellyville, and that she will provide ongoing support to the Club through her media
links.
Next Monday we have the opportunity to learn more about social networking from
Haran, who has become quite an expert in the area. Haran, as many of you are aware
is now involved in producing the District newsletter, which in turn is providing us with
some excellent information in our own Weekly Bulletin. It will be an interesting eveni ng
with a focus on how we can publicise information about our Club on the Internet.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Warm regards,
President Bobby Redman

Weekly Toast - Overseas Club
This week we would like to toast the Rotary Club of Toronto –
District 7070.
With over 250 members, The Rotary Club of Toronto is one of the
largest clubs in Canada and one of the largest Rotary Clubs in the
British Commonwealth. It was organized in 1912 (Club No.55) and
has acted as Host club for Rotary International Conventions in
101st President: 1924, 1942, 1964 and 1983.
Neil Phillips
The Rotary Club of Toronto Charitable Foundation
Established in 1951, The Rotary Club of Toronto Charitable Foundation was formed to
receive bequests and other gifts. Within the constraints imposed by donors and the tax
laws, the Foundation supports charitable and educational community projects and the
charitable activities of the Club.
Mission Statement
The Rotary Club of Toronto Charitable Foundation is the fundraising and granting entity of
the Rotary Club of Toronto. Its primary mission is to fund programs, in the City of Toronto,
which benefit children and youth in the areas of health, education, child abuse and neglect,
social development and life enrichment. It also funds community programs for the
homeless, disabled and seniors and contributes, from time to time, to international Rotary
projects which assist children and youth.
The Rotary Club of Toronto's Charitable Foundation offers an attractive alternative for many
individuals and families who are interested in establishing their own family foundation.
Contact the Executive Director at 416-363-0604 or email:
office@rotarytoronto.on.ca for further information.
To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in
Florida, the state’s first club, the
Rotary Club of Jacksonville, and
District 6970 raised funds for a
mobile health bus that will visit
schools, churches, community
centers, and shopping areas to
provide screenings, inoculations,
and basic care to local children and
families. Kalyan Banerjee, 2011-12
RI president, and his wife, Binota,
were on hand to dedicate the bus in
February.

Rotary Foundation Thought for the Week
Future Vision
Pilot overview
The Rotary Foundation Future Vision Pilot is a three-year test of
the new grant structure offered in the Foundation's Future Vision Plan. One hundred
districts are participating in the pilot. Pilot districts will have a unique opportunity to help
refine the new grant structure by providing input and receiving specialized Foundation
support and service.
Grant structure
Pilot districts will work with Rotary Foundation District Grants and Rotary Foundation Global
Grants for three years of the pilot. Download the terms and conditions for these grants. For
more information, view the " Choosing a grant " interactive training module.
Rotary Foundation District Grants
District grants are block grants made to districts for up to 50 percent of their District
Designated Fund (DDF). District grants offer the flexibility to respond quickly to immediate
needs or to plan projects with clubs locally or in other countries.
Rotary Foundation Global Grants
Global grants support large international projects with sustainable, high-impact outcomes in
the six areas of focus that correspond to the Foundation's mission.
Areas of focus
1. Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
2. Disease prevention and treatment
3. Water and sanitation
4. Maternal and child health
5. Basic education and literacy
6. Economic and community development

Vocational Service Corner – PP Haran Ramachandran
Through the Avenue of Vocational Service, Rotarians
contribute their professional expertise and skills to address
societal problems and needs, promote high ethical standards
in the workplace, support career planning and other
vocational activities, and represent the dignity and value of
their profession. Rotary Images/Alyce Henson
Vocational Service Month promotes business integrity, professional development
Carlos Früm, governor of District 6440 (Illinois, USA) and a member of the Rotary Club of
Northbrook, teaches business principles and entrepreneurship to Maya high school students
as part of his district’s ongoing service project in Guatemala.
"Vocational service gives Rotarians the opportunity to help others escape poverty and gain
a measure of self-respect," Früm says. "As business and professional leaders, we have a
duty to lead and encourage good ethics through vocation."
Through vocational service, Rotarians contribute their professional expertise and skills to
address societal problems and needs, and to promote high ethical standards in the
workplace.
"Rotary's focus on ethical practices as part of vocational service has been a central part of
my success in my business, professional, civic, and personal life since I became a Rotarian,"
says Paul A. Netzel, vice chair of the Vocational Service Promotion Committee and past RI
director.
Rotarians have two benchmarks for promoting professional integrity: The Four-Way Test
and the Declaration of Rotarians in Businesses and Professions.
"Rotary's Four-Way Test has served as an easy template for me in weighing the pros and
cons of countless issues and decisions I've had to address over my career," Netzel says. "It
has helped make me a better Rotarian."
Netzel says vocational service sets Rotary apart from other service and humanitarian
organizations.
Rotarians can support vocational service by
Strengthening the emphasis on professional diversity in member recruitment
Identifying ways to emphasize professions in club activities
Placing a stronger emphasis on business networking with integrity at the club and
district level -- which also is a means of attracting and mentoring the next
generation
Emphasizing the connection between The Four-Way Test and the Declaration of
Rotarians in Businesses and Professions, and their importance to the values of
Rotary
