3. COASTAL ZONE MANAGEMENT
Definition:
ï§ Coastal zone
- An area of variable width which extends seaward to the edge of
continental shelf but which has no distinct landward demarcation
(Hail,1980)
- Land meets the ocean, encompassing shoreline environments as well
as adjacent coastal water. (World Banks, 1996)
- Coastal waters and the adjacent shorelands (US Coastal Zone
Management Act, 1972)

Coastal Zone Management
- Coastal Zone Management involves managing human
activity to protect the natural resources of the coastal
zone & to protect human from coastal hazards. (Beatley,
Brower &Schwab, 2002)
