22. Rationale in Selecting a Pre school Project
THE NEED
• As per the statistics approx 150 pre schools are totally
washed away. Another few hundreds are damaged.
• Most of these kids have lost their homes, parents,
relatives etc and live in camps that are alien to them.
There are approx 42,000 kids of pre school age (3 to 5)
who are affected. They suffer from many phobias and
are very confused. The time spent idling makes them
victims of many psychological disorders.
•These kids fall within the age category that are
vulnerable to heinous acts by certain segments of
society.

in collaboration with Colombo

45. SUSTAINABILITY?
After completion the schools were handed over to the Local Govt. An MOU was signed
between Hemas, Ministry of Child Development and Local Govt.
The Local Govt. Will:
1. Attend to the maintenance of the building and will allocate money
2. Appoint qualified teachers and pay the salaries

1. Will create PTA in every school. A capital sum of Rs.50,000/- will be
deposited for maintenance
2. Annual teacher training programmes will be arranged.
3. Annual parental awareness programmes will be arranged
4. Monitor progress of every school and appoint a coordinator
