Low-level discovery provides a way to automatically create items, triggers, and graphs for different entities. For instance, Zabbix can automatically start monitoring file systems or network interfaces on your machine, without the need to create items for each file system or network interface manually. Using a real-life practical example which we use to monitor vehicles issued with GPS trackers which communicate via MQTT, we will discuss how we implement Zabbix Low-Level Discovery directly from a C module and how the same C module is used to provide up-to-date information from the vehicles to Zabbix items. This basic principle can easily be adapted to provide similar functionility to Internet of Things (IoT) projects. While it helps if you can read a bit of C language code, we’ll explain what’s going on behind the scenes even if you don’t.

GTIDs were introduced to solve replication problems and improve database consistency in MySQL database replication. When, accidentally, transactions occur on a replica, this introduces GTIDs on that replica that don't exist on the master. When, on a master failover, this replica becomes the new master, and the corresponding binlogs of the errant GTIDs are already purged, replication breaks on the replicas of this new master, because those missing GTIDs can't be retrieved from the binlogs of this new master. This presentation will talk about GTIDs and how to detect errant GTIDs on a replica (before the corresponding binlogs are purged) and how to look at the corresponding transactions in the binlogs. I'll give some examples of transactions that could happen on a replica that didn't originate from a primary node, explain how this is possible and share some tips on how to avoid this. Basic understanding of MySQL database replication is assumed. The root cause of most software exploits is bugs. Hardening, mitigations and containers are important, but they can't protect a system with thousands of bugs. In this presentation, Dmitry Vyukov will review the current [sad] situation with Linux kernel bugs and security implications based on their experience testing kernel for the past 3 years; overview a set of bug finding tools they are developing (syzbot, syzkaller, KASAN, KMSAN, KTSAN); and discuss problems and areas that require community help to improve the situation.

The Xen domU create/destroy and device hotplug rely on xenwatch kernel thread to run xenwatch event callback function for each subscribed xenstore node update. Any event callback function hang would stall the only single xenwatch thread and forbid further domU create/destroy or device hotplug. This talk presents how Xenwatch Multithreading can address the xenwatch stall issue. In addition to the default xenwatch thread, the dom0 will create a per-domU kernel thread for each domU to handle their own xenwatch event. Therefore, domU create/destroy or device hotplug are still allowed even when a specific per-domU xenwatch thread is stalled. This talk first discusses the limitation in single-threaded xenwatch design with some case studies, then explains the basic knowledge on paravirtual driver, and finally presents the challenge, design and implementation of xenwatch multithreading.

Automation is getting more and more important these days, but it is not always easy to achieve, because it requires tremendous effort to convert existing procedures machine-friendly. That often means, you need to change almost everything! StackStorm (aka st2, https://stackstorm.com/) is an open source IFTTT-ish middleware that ships with powerful workflow engine and unique features called "inquiries". I'll focus on this workflow engine functionalities of st2 and show how these can ease the "automation" of day to day tasks. The example I'll show in this presentation is the actual workflow that we use at JPNAP, the real world IXP operation.
