DIMENSION 
OF LODGING
LODGING PROPERTIES 
Defined as an establishment that charges 
fees for providing furnished sleeping 
accommodations to persons who are 
temporarily away from home or who consider 
these accommodations their temporary or 
permanent homes. Many of these 
establishments also provide food, beverages, 
cleaning services, and a range of other services 
normally associated with travel commonly 
sought by travelers.
BASIC TERMINOLOGY FOR 
LODGING FACILITIES 
Bed and Breakfast or B & Bs – refers to guest houses 
in the United Kingdom and North America; they are 
smaller, more intimate, and less expenses than hotels 
and motels. 
Board House – is a residential facility that provides 
lodging and meals for guests who normally consider 
the facility their home. 
Budget Hotel – is relatively low in price or charging 
low prices. 
Condominium – refers to apartments in high-rise 
buildings located mostly on recreational areas. 
Dormitory – refers to lodging facility affiliated with 
some educational or other institution that provides 
sleeping accommodations for those in residence.
CLASSIFICATION OF LODGING 
ESTABLISHMENTS 
a. Convention hotel- are commercial properties that have 
the capability of hosting conferences and meetings. 
b. Commercial hotel- are generally located in center-city 
for the convenience of the business traveler.
c. Resort hotel- commonly described as a lodging establishment that 
attract pleasure travelers or vacation seekers 
d. Casino hotel- offers patrons opportunities to sleep cheap, yet 
spend big.

e. Extended stay- denotes lodging facilities designed for guests 
who need long-term accommodations.
FUNCTION AND PRIMARY MARKET 
a. Center-city- are usually located in large cities usually along the 
business districts.
b. Suburban- located in the suburbs often near shopping centers 
recreational facilities, such as golf courses.
c. Resorts- refer to properties usually seen in areas of great scenic 
beauty or with outstanding recreational facilities.

  • 1. LESSON 1 DIMENSION OF LODGING
  • 2. LODGING PROPERTIES Defined as an establishment that charges fees for providing furnished sleeping accommodations to persons who are temporarily away from home or who consider these accommodations their temporary or permanent homes. Many of these establishments also provide food, beverages, cleaning services, and a range of other services normally associated with travel commonly sought by travelers.
  • 3. BASIC TERMINOLOGY FOR LODGING FACILITIES Bed and Breakfast or B & Bs – refers to guest houses in the United Kingdom and North America; they are smaller, more intimate, and less expenses than hotels and motels. Board House – is a residential facility that provides lodging and meals for guests who normally consider the facility their home. Budget Hotel – is relatively low in price or charging low prices. Condominium – refers to apartments in high-rise buildings located mostly on recreational areas. Dormitory – refers to lodging facility affiliated with some educational or other institution that provides sleeping accommodations for those in residence.
  • 4. CLASSIFICATION OF LODGING ESTABLISHMENTS a. Convention hotel- are commercial properties that have the capability of hosting conferences and meetings. b. Commercial hotel- are generally located in center-city for the convenience of the business traveler.
  • 5. c. Resort hotel- commonly described as a lodging establishment that attract pleasure travelers or vacation seekers d. Casino hotel- offers patrons opportunities to sleep cheap, yet spend big. Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila Pavilion e. Extended stay- denotes lodging facilities designed for guests who need long-term accommodations.
  • 6. FUNCTION AND PRIMARY MARKET a. Center-city- are usually located in large cities usually along the business districts.
  • 7. b. Suburban- located in the suburbs often near shopping centers recreational facilities, such as golf courses.
  • 8. c. Resorts- refer to properties usually seen in areas of great scenic beauty or with outstanding recreational facilities.
