USING SMART NOTEBOOK IN CREATING INTERACTIVE
FOREIGN LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES

Training Defense Language Institutes' foreign language
instructors on using the interactive whiteboard in foreign
 language learning.
GOALS

The use of Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) in foreign
language learning could improve students' learning
  because:
 using IWB encourages students to learn by doing.

 IWB applies multi-sensory approach which appeals
  to most students.
 visual effects and manipulating by hand enhances
  learning and retention.
GOALS

 to use multi-sensory approach in teaching.
 to use communicative and interactive learning
  activities to enhance learning.
 teachers need to learn how to utilize the Smart
Board in creating engaging and effective lessons.
 learn how to adapt and edit ready-to-use lesson
  activities.
 share their learning activities with each other.
GOALS

 less preparation time for creating learning
  activities.
 make teaching more efficient by using the same
  learning activities for future classes.
 eliminate copying and printing of lessons.

 efficient use of learning activities due to sharing
  with other teachers.
 promote teamwork.
SUMMARY OF NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND
PURPOSE OF TRAINING

 most teachers expressed adequate knowledge of
using the Smartboard and the Smart Notebook.
 they asked for more refreshing and more up-to-
  date information.
 most do not use IWB often.

 they think that it is time-consuming to use the IWB.
PURPOSE OF TRAINING

 to educate the faculty about the positive impact of
using IWB in foreign language learning.
 enable them to create their own lessons, use the
resources, and share with each other.
 help teacher build confidence in using the IWB
  effectively and efficiently.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES

 demonstrate basic functions of the Smartboard.
 demonstrate basic functions of the Smart Notebook
  Software.
 browse the online resources especially in language
  learning.
 create simple games and learning activities in the
  target language.
 each participant provides language lesson using
  the Smartboard.

EVALUATION PLAN

to use the IWB successfully, teachers
 create lessons in the target language using the
  Smart Notebook.
 incorporate the IWB in their teaching and use it
  more often in lesson activities.
 become more efficient users of the IWB.
EVALUATION PLAN

to measure progress
 survey students on the use of the IWB.

 survey the teachers on the use of IWB.

 measure students' learning via teachers'
observations, quizzes, test, and students own
  feedback.
