Principal’s Notes
Someone once asked me, “What sets St. Wendelin Catholic School apart from other schools?”
My immediate thoughts were individualized attention through small class sizes, commitment to
meeting the needs of students, an incredible art, music, technology, and physical education
department, excellent teachers, and the opportunity to openly pray throughout the school day.
However, as I sat and thought about it a quote from St. Catherine of Sienna came to me. “If you
are what you should be, you will set the whole world ablaze!” This is what truly sets St. Wendelin
apart; we educate students to be a light onto the world.
Through the Leader in Me Initiative that we will begin in the 16-17 school year, students K-12
will be able to join activity groups that encourage learning and service. For example, a gardening
club would teach biology and provide food to the community. The seven habits that students learn
will enable them to become proactive participants in their world.
Our STEM initiative will increase project based learning in the classrooms. Students will learn
not only the topic material but how to apply that knowledge to the world around them. This year
all students in K-12 technology classes participated in Hour of Code. Through this world wide
program, students were able to learn how to code while completing fun online activities. It was
awesome to watch our students’ skills grow as they completed projects simultaneously with
students across the globe.
This year has been an amazing journey, as we have found ourselves blessed with many
academic, athletic, and club successes. Across seasons and sports our athletes have placed among
the best in the state. Model UN completed another landmark season and the Quiz Bowl team went
undefeated in league play. As we prepare for graduation, we are extremely proud of all that our
senior class has accomplished.
St. Wendelin Catholic School is truly a family. We are continually striving to meet the academic
and faith needs to our students by accessing where we are today and strategizing to determine
where we need to be in the future. At St. Wendelin you (are):
H – Have
O – Opportunities
M – To Meet and
E – Exceed all of your Expectations.
Please plan to join your St. Wendelin family in the many events that will be occurring this final
month of school which includes but are not limited to track meets, ball games, choir and band
concerts, fine arts show, May Crowning and school masses. I am pleased to be bringing back the
outdoor mass and picnic the last day of school, May 27th. Parents are invited to join in the potluck
and the end of the year liturgical celebration. Plan for an 11:00 Mass with school potluck/picnic to
follow.
Enjoy these lovely spring days and God bless!

ST. WENDELIN WELCOMES NEW DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Jeannette (Beeson) Lee has recently transitioned from the position of Grant Writer to
Development Director. She began working at St. Wendelin in late October 2015. She is a 1975
graduate of SWCS. She and husband, Michael (also a 1975 graduate) have three children who also
attended SWCS. Some of you may be familiar with Jeannette‘s husband, Michael, who served as a
teacher and coach several years ago.
Jeannette will bring her experience in development at the University level
to every aspect of this position. Her eye for detail, kind heart and enthusiastic
spirit will most assuredly continue to make Jeannette a great fit for St.
Wendelin! Please take the next opportunity you have to offer a warm welcome
to Jeannette. Please feel free to contact her regarding any development
matters at 419-435-6692 ext. 415 or jeannette.lee@stwendelin.org.

KINDERGARTNERS MAKE
SCRUMPTIOUS BREAD
Liam Schumm, pours milk into a bowl
containing ingredients to make bread as
kindergarten teacher Linda Shetzer and Maciel
Salcido watch Tuesday at St. Wendelin Catholic
School. Through the dough making process, the
students learned what it was like to work
together. The class read “Little Red Hen,” a
book about animals who don’t help a little red
hen bake bread but expect to get to eat it.
Shetzer said she thought this would be a fun
way for students to practice working together
and helping one another. After the dough was
thoroughly mixed, they kneaded it and made 12
rolls, enough for each of them.
STUDENTS SIMULATE
TEXTING & DRIVING
SWCS students crash in a texting and
driving simulator Tuesday morning at the
school as Chris Wyche, a representative with
AT&T, oversees the session. In the
simulator, students drive through the streets
and, when prompted, look at a text received
from the simulator. The school partnered
with AT&T and set the simulator up in the
cafeteria during lunch so new drivers could
learn the dangers of texting and driving.
Wyche came back to the school Tuesday
evening to give the presentation, “It Can
Wait”, during an event hosted by the school
to bring safety awareness to young drivers
and their parents. Parent-Teen Awareness
Night also included presentations from Lt.
Brent Meredith with Fremont’s post of the
Ohio State Highway Patrol and Susan Baker
with the Ohio Investigative Unit on the
importance of not drinking and driving.

SUNDAY, JUNE 5 Baccalaureate Mass 1:00 PM (Church) Graduation 3:00 PM (North Gym) FRI.-SUN., JUNE 10-12 SW Festival Principal’s Notes Someone once asked me, “What sets St. Wendelin Catholic School apart from other schools?” My immediate thoughts were individualized attention through small class sizes, commitment to meeting the needs of students, an incredible art, music, technology, and physical education department, excellent teachers, and the opportunity to openly pray throughout the school day. However, as I sat and thought about it a quote from St. Catherine of Sienna came to me. “If you are what you should be, you will set the whole world ablaze!” This is what truly sets St. Wendelin apart; we educate students to be a light onto the world. Through the Leader in Me Initiative that we will begin in the 16-17 school year, students K-12 will be able to join activity groups that encourage learning and service. For example, a gardening club would teach biology and provide food to the community. The seven habits that students learn will enable them to become proactive participants in their world. Our STEM initiative will increase project based learning in the classrooms. Students will learn not only the topic material but how to apply that knowledge to the world around them. This year all students in K-12 technology classes participated in Hour of Code. Through this world wide program, students were able to learn how to code while completing fun online activities. It was awesome to watch our students’ skills grow as they completed projects simultaneously with students across the globe. This year has been an amazing journey, as we have found ourselves blessed with many academic, athletic, and club successes. Across seasons and sports our athletes have placed among the best in the state. Model UN completed another landmark season and the Quiz Bowl team went undefeated in league play. As we prepare for graduation, we are extremely proud of all that our senior class has accomplished. St. Wendelin Catholic School is truly a family. We are continually striving to meet the academic and faith needs to our students by accessing where we are today and strategizing to determine where we need to be in the future. At St. Wendelin you (are): H – Have O – Opportunities M – To Meet and E – Exceed all of your Expectations. Please plan to join your St. Wendelin family in the many events that will be occurring this final month of school which includes but are not limited to track meets, ball games, choir and band concerts, fine arts show, May Crowning and school masses. I am pleased to be bringing back the outdoor mass and picnic the last day of school, May 27th. Parents are invited to join in the potluck and the end of the year liturgical celebration. Plan for an 11:00 Mass with school potluck/picnic to follow. Enjoy these lovely spring days and God bless! Mrs. Cathy Krupp, Principal ST. WENDELIN WELCOMES NEW DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR Jeannette (Beeson) Lee has recently transitioned from the position of Grant Writer to Development Director. She began working at St. Wendelin in late October 2015. She is a 1975 graduate of SWCS. She and husband, Michael (also a 1975 graduate) have three children who also attended SWCS. Some of you may be familiar with Jeannette‘s husband, Michael, who served as a teacher and coach several years ago. Jeannette will bring her experience in development at the University level to every aspect of this position. Her eye for detail, kind heart and enthusiastic spirit will most assuredly continue to make Jeannette a great fit for St. Wendelin! Please take the next opportunity you have to offer a warm welcome to Jeannette. Please feel free to contact her regarding any development matters at 419-435-6692 ext. 415 or jeannette.lee@stwendelin.org.

  • 4. KINDERGARTNERS MAKE SCRUMPTIOUS BREAD Liam Schumm, pours milk into a bowl containing ingredients to make bread as kindergarten teacher Linda Shetzer and Maciel Salcido watch Tuesday at St. Wendelin Catholic School. Through the dough making process, the students learned what it was like to work together. The class read “Little Red Hen,” a book about animals who don’t help a little red hen bake bread but expect to get to eat it. Shetzer said she thought this would be a fun way for students to practice working together and helping one another. After the dough was thoroughly mixed, they kneaded it and made 12 rolls, enough for each of them. STUDENTS SIMULATE TEXTING & DRIVING SWCS students crash in a texting and driving simulator Tuesday morning at the school as Chris Wyche, a representative with AT&T, oversees the session. In the simulator, students drive through the streets and, when prompted, look at a text received from the simulator. The school partnered with AT&T and set the simulator up in the cafeteria during lunch so new drivers could learn the dangers of texting and driving. Wyche came back to the school Tuesday evening to give the presentation, “It Can Wait”, during an event hosted by the school to bring safety awareness to young drivers and their parents. Parent-Teen Awareness Night also included presentations from Lt. Brent Meredith with Fremont’s post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Susan Baker with the Ohio Investigative Unit on the importance of not drinking and driving.

On April 16th, St. Wendelin hosted its annual St. Wendelin Track & Field Invitational and it was very successful! Thank you to all the volunteers who worked the event! It could not have been done without you! Thanks also to those who came and supported our athletes over the past two weeks at both the St. Wendelin and the Fostoria Athletic Boosters Invitationals. St. Wendelin will be hosting the 2nd and final SRL Championships on May 14th. SOFTBALL/BASEBALL Congrats to Mikayla Gilliland and Victoria Walter on hitting homeruns in last night's 16-0 win over Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic. The softball and baseball teams are preparing for tournament play, which begins for the boys on May 7th and the girls on May 9th. More information regarding the dates, times, and locations of tournament games will be shared as it becomes available next week. If you have not been out to see a game, Foundation Park is a great place to enjoy some baseball and softball action. The teams will be home at 5:00 PM from May 9th through May 11th, unless tournament games force vents to be rescheduled. GO MOHAWKS!
