Academic History
• At school I was always eager to learn and excelled
at my my creative subjects. I have always
described myself as artistic and I think this trait
will help me significantly in advertising. At school
I did well in english and religious studies. This
shows I can demonstrate a clear understanding of
points and opinions. It also shows that I can
communicate well through written work which I
think is very important in marketing of any form.
Current Study
• After studying media for the past year or so, I have had so many
doors opened to me. The freedom to be creative and work in a
medium that suits me. Through this I discovered marketing, I
realised after my final project all the skills I have developed through
work and creative subjects at college have given me the perfect
skillset for marketing, pr and advertising. For my final project at the
end of first year, I decided to create my own chocolate brand along
with promotional posters, social media pages and a website. I got
stuck in and spent hours developing designs and researching, when
doing my social media posts and creating my website, I felt like it
was just second nature, I knew what to write and how to write it.
Despite this not being a real company and only a short project, the
enjoyment I got from even the boring coursework showed me that
this is what I want to do in the future. In the end I got a distinction.
The future
• When I came to college I was still unsure of where I wanted to go in
the future, as until then ,I had never found something I felt I
connected with, that I was good at and enjoyed. We began doing an
advertising project and I was suddenly in my element, I was
enthralled learning about lines of appeal and different selling
points. I’m a very creative person, I have a good imagination, but I
also have really good communication skills. I love people, I’m very
social, I worked from the age of 14 so despite always being quite
outgoing as a kid, I had to learn to adapt quickly to working and
communicating professionally in a workplace not only with
colleagues much older than me but also with customers. I enjoy
practical work and have always tried to maintain a job and push
myself. I’m very motivated and have business mindset. I hope one
day to own my own business or charity organisation.
Outside College
• I took part in the youth theatre from the age of four and continued it with commitment until I
began college. Each year, our groups would perform a piece of theatre, some of which were self-
devised or site specific. This allowed me to learn lots of key skills as we were required to work
together, be imaginative and discuss ideas and creative differences which at times, could lead to
disagreements but we learnt to solve these problems though compromise and social
understanding. Later I got involved in larger scale community productions where I would be
working with people of all ages from different backgrounds where these skills were required.
• The York theatre royal hosts the takeover festival each year which is a short two week festival run
entirely by young people ages 12-26. I took part in the festival on two occasions and really enjoyed
the experience. I loved being in a team with other creative people and getting chance to literally
‘take over’ the theatre. Scheduling shows, hosting workshops, running social media pages and
promoting events are just some of the tasks it involved.
• From a young age I was eager to begin working. My first job was in a high end hair salon for 18
months where I had to adapt quickly to working in a professional setting, learn about customer
service and promotion of sales. I then I did a short placement at an art gallery where I continued in
promotional work and supported exhibitions and events. My current job is in a small but successful
local business, has allowed me to use my confidence and social skills to communicate well with
customers which has led me to get several promotions over the last year.
Conclusion
• Advertising allows me to use my people skills, my
creative thinking and my tactical business
mindset. I knew instantly that this is what I
wanted to learn more about, to develop my
knowledge and ideas. I love learning new things
and marketing captivates me by how complex it
really is, the psychology behind it all,
understanding demographics, analysing and
collecting data, learning how best to appeal to
each particular person in what way on which
platform. Marketing opens up so many
opportunities that I’m ready to explore.
Introduction
• When I decided to study creative media at college, I was so excited
to explore a subject that allowed me to be artistic but also
incorporate my entrepreneurial skills. Throughout the variety of
projects I have worked on, I discovered and gained new creative
and technical skills. Before long, I found that the area of study that
interested me the most was advertising and marketing. I was
enthralled by the complexities and psychology behind advertising.
As I continued in my first year, I would find myself excelling in the
marketing and research sides of my projects, quickly developing
understandings of audience demographics and lines of appeal.
Business was something that always interested me and I would
always joke how I would be good on the apprentice but now I
realise that actually I can combine my strong business mind set and
critical thinking with my creativity and artistic skills, which would
enable me to succeed in the marketing industry.

  • 16. Academic History • At school I was always eager to learn and excelled at my my creative subjects. I have always described myself as artistic and I think this trait will help me significantly in advertising. At school I did well in english and religious studies. This shows I can demonstrate a clear understanding of points and opinions. It also shows that I can communicate well through written work which I think is very important in marketing of any form.
  • 17. Current Study • After studying media for the past year or so, I have had so many doors opened to me. The freedom to be creative and work in a medium that suits me. Through this I discovered marketing, I realised after my final project all the skills I have developed through work and creative subjects at college have given me the perfect skillset for marketing, pr and advertising. For my final project at the end of first year, I decided to create my own chocolate brand along with promotional posters, social media pages and a website. I got stuck in and spent hours developing designs and researching, when doing my social media posts and creating my website, I felt like it was just second nature, I knew what to write and how to write it. Despite this not being a real company and only a short project, the enjoyment I got from even the boring coursework showed me that this is what I want to do in the future. In the end I got a distinction.
  • 18. The future • When I came to college I was still unsure of where I wanted to go in the future, as until then ,I had never found something I felt I connected with, that I was good at and enjoyed. We began doing an advertising project and I was suddenly in my element, I was enthralled learning about lines of appeal and different selling points. I’m a very creative person, I have a good imagination, but I also have really good communication skills. I love people, I’m very social, I worked from the age of 14 so despite always being quite outgoing as a kid, I had to learn to adapt quickly to working and communicating professionally in a workplace not only with colleagues much older than me but also with customers. I enjoy practical work and have always tried to maintain a job and push myself. I’m very motivated and have business mindset. I hope one day to own my own business or charity organisation.
  • 19. Outside College • I took part in the youth theatre from the age of four and continued it with commitment until I began college. Each year, our groups would perform a piece of theatre, some of which were self- devised or site specific. This allowed me to learn lots of key skills as we were required to work together, be imaginative and discuss ideas and creative differences which at times, could lead to disagreements but we learnt to solve these problems though compromise and social understanding. Later I got involved in larger scale community productions where I would be working with people of all ages from different backgrounds where these skills were required. • The York theatre royal hosts the takeover festival each year which is a short two week festival run entirely by young people ages 12-26. I took part in the festival on two occasions and really enjoyed the experience. I loved being in a team with other creative people and getting chance to literally ‘take over’ the theatre. Scheduling shows, hosting workshops, running social media pages and promoting events are just some of the tasks it involved. • From a young age I was eager to begin working. My first job was in a high end hair salon for 18 months where I had to adapt quickly to working in a professional setting, learn about customer service and promotion of sales. I then I did a short placement at an art gallery where I continued in promotional work and supported exhibitions and events. My current job is in a small but successful local business, has allowed me to use my confidence and social skills to communicate well with customers which has led me to get several promotions over the last year.
  • 20. Conclusion • Advertising allows me to use my people skills, my creative thinking and my tactical business mindset. I knew instantly that this is what I wanted to learn more about, to develop my knowledge and ideas. I love learning new things and marketing captivates me by how complex it really is, the psychology behind it all, understanding demographics, analysing and collecting data, learning how best to appeal to each particular person in what way on which platform. Marketing opens up so many opportunities that I’m ready to explore.
  • 21. Introduction • When I decided to study creative media at college, I was so excited to explore a subject that allowed me to be artistic but also incorporate my entrepreneurial skills. Throughout the variety of projects I have worked on, I discovered and gained new creative and technical skills. Before long, I found that the area of study that interested me the most was advertising and marketing. I was enthralled by the complexities and psychology behind advertising. As I continued in my first year, I would find myself excelling in the marketing and research sides of my projects, quickly developing understandings of audience demographics and lines of appeal. Business was something that always interested me and I would always joke how I would be good on the apprentice but now I realise that actually I can combine my strong business mind set and critical thinking with my creativity and artistic skills, which would enable me to succeed in the marketing industry.
