      A LinkedIn Group is a specialized community of Professionals with same interests who discuss
on same issues. There are over 1,428,286 LinkedIn Groups.

Type in "Business Networking" and this happens - 20525 groups with those words in.
OR Type in “Doctors Networking” and this happens – 91 groups with those words in.


    In the business world it is crucial to foster truly significant and mutually beneficial relationships
online. LinkedIn Groups provides its users the optimal venue which enables you to consistently spend
quality time and engage in meaningful discourse with the members of your intended demographic.
However, in order to reap the rewards of your time spent engaging in social media; the appropriate
stratagem must be implemented.

1. Scope Out the Best Opportunities

       LinkedIn allows its members to participate in up to 50 groups, but how can you spread yourself
       that thin, and still make a difference? Your presence will barely be noticed; you will simply be a
       name on a roster.
       We recommend that you narrow your choices to just a few groups, perhaps three or five that
       target your demographic. Correspondingly, you’ll want to select groups with members of at
       least 2,000 in order to maximize your outreach. This strategy will assist in generating fresh

      Since the most active discussions within a group tend to get the most visibility, these are the
      conversations in which you must become engaged. You will find the most popular discussions
      at the top of the group’s discussion page. As you regularly contribute; respond and offer
      meaningful insights and opinions or even ask a provocative question, you will be recognized as
      a “leader.”


3. Launch Your Own Discussion

      Initiating a new discussion thread is a commanding tool within a group, but you must have a
      strategy. Don’t start your own discourse right away. Wait until you’ve spent some time and
      have gotten to know the members, the “pecking order” so to speak, and analyze prior
      discussions. Which topics have engaged the members? When you feel ready to begin, present a
      question, request help or advice; or post a relevant and attention-grabbing article or resource
      for the benefit of the group. The primary impetus is to incite as much discourse and debate as
      possible.
      If you are indeed engrossing group members with your discussions, you will likely be
      acknowledged as a “Top Influencer” in the group page sidebar, which will in turn, enhance
      your visibility and clout within the group.
      Addendum: It is crucial to add value when initiating discussions. Do not use the groups for self-
      promotion or the promotion of your services and products. This is appropriate only after you’ve
      become a source of credibility and authority within the group. Only then is it acceptable to post
      one of your own articles occasionally. Just be certain that your posts answer a question or solve
      a problem for the members. Never post sales related information.


4. Don’t Leave Them Hanging

      One drawback of LinkedIn Groups is that it’s time-consuming to remain apprised of updates
      unless you proactively and diligently maintain a presence in your targeted groups. It is essential
      that you keep up with the conversations in which you participate. Don’t allow too much time to
      pass between visits to the group’s page; and do not leave a conversation dangling. Make sure
      your comments are thought-provoking and intriguing. This is the way you will demonstrate
      commitment to your groups.
