Film Production Research and Planning Tasks 1 - 10
1. FILM TASKS
YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING TASKS,
PRINT THEM OFF AND PUT IN YOUR RESEARCH
AND PLANNING FOLDER.
2. TASK 1
Create a mood-
board or brainstorm
detailing the
different types of
film genres that
there are.
3. TASK 2
Brainstorm 10 ideas that your film could be
based on.
My Film
Ideas
A film about a kidnapping
A film about a gang fight
A horror chase scene
A film about the police
investigating a murder
4. TASK 3
Decide what genre your film will belong to
and explain the reasons for your choice..
For our film my group has
decided to make a film that is
of the Horror genre. This is
because we know the codes
and conventions of this genre
best and most of our initial
ideas were linked to the Horror
genre. We will be able to use
locations such as the local
woods to film our scenes and
already know people who can
portray the characters well as
they do drama.
5. TASK 4
Create a mood-board of images of film
posters of films that are of the same genre
as your own.
6. TASK 5
Discuss 3 films from your mood-board that you know will
definitely inspire your own film.
You should discuss:
• Storyline
• Characters
• Setting
• Costume / Props
• Music
• Technical areas
Example: The Blair Witch Project will inspire my
own film because the storyline is based on a
character being followed which our own film will do
too. Also I like the use of a forest as a setting and
intend to use the same setting for my own film. I
will also use hand-held camera work as it creates a
sense of drama and creepy music for the same
reason.
7. TASK 6
Create a mood-board detailing the
stereotypical locations used in a film of the
same genre as your own.
8. TASK 7
Discuss 4 characters from other films of the same
genre as yours that will act as inspiration for
characters in your own film.
You must explain what it is about the characters
that you like and why it will add to the story.
9. TASK 8
Create a mood-board of the stereotypical props
that would be used in a film of the same genre as
yours.
10. TASK 9
Create a mood-board of the stereotypical costume
that would be used in a film of the same genre as
yours.
11. TASK 10
Create a storyboard detailing the opening scene of
your film.
