Improve CO2 Footprint
Convenient and Light Weighting Packaging with No
Compromise on Performance
The industry has been already done some
progress on the packaging area, but how to
go even further into the consumer needs
considering the current challenges of the
industry?
• HOW TO INCREASE
RECYCLABE CONTENT EVEN
MORE?
• HOW TO DOWNGAUGE
PLASTIC CONTENT AND
KEEP OR EVEN IMPROVE
BARRIER PROPERTIES AND
TOP LOAD?
• HOW TO REACH ABOVE
MENTIONED TARGETS AND
STILL GET FOOD CONTACT
CLEARANCE?
• HOW TO EMIT LESS CO2 IN
THE VALUE CHAIN?
 Urbanization
 Busier lifestyles
 “On-the-go”
 Single person households
 Population growth in
developing countries
DEMOGRAPHIC &
LIFESTYLE CHANGE
SUSTAINABILITY
KEY DRIVER IMPACT
 Public/consumer pressure
on brands to reduce
plastics
 Regulatory developments
 Increased convenience
of packaging for food
and drinks
 Increased demand for
smaller pack sizes
 Packaging light weighting
with the same performance
as the traditional ones
 Usage of recycled plastics
or bioplastics

BUDIT® L24
Heat Management of Thermoplastics with Enhanced IR Absorption
BUDIT® L24 is a very efficient, wavelength-absorbing ingredient that is easily dispersible in all
polymers.
Applications
Heat management of thermoplastics (PP, PE,
PET, PC) during energy-assisted forming
processes such as thermoforming
11
11
11
Energy efficiency
Heat Management of Thermoplastics with
Enhanced IR Absorption
BUDIT® L24 is suitable for NIR light and converts the infrared light energy into
thermal energy, resulting in rapid and homogeneous heating in the polymer.
Convenient to dose, the masterbatch allows for an easy dispersion and processing
in a broad variety of polymers.
Benefits
 Energy savings of up to 20 %
 CO2 footprint reduction
 Enables faster cycle times
 Large processing windows, especially for transparent materials
 Reduced rejects
 Homogeneous heat distribution due to controlled IR absorption offering high
quality geometries
 Free from antimony, bismuth and tin making it safe for food and medical
applications

Editor's Notes

  1. Lightweight design helps to accelerate decarbonization -> lightweight cuts fuel consumption -> Co2 emission -> lightweight can help to reduce energy consumption of EV and extend EV range -> accelerating adoption lighter trucks and as well lighter goods can increase cost- and fuel efficiency Global CO2 emissions by sector 2021 | Statista
  2. Lower viscosity results in the following benefits: • Lower injection pressure. • Ability to use lower MFI resins. • Increased flow length or thinner wall. • Reduced core shift Lower clamp force results in: • Use of smaller, lower cost, machines or increased cavitation. • Less wear and tear on tooling. • Energy reduction • Similar reduction in clamp as Inj-Compression without the need for special tooling or excessive balance requirement.
  3. Ability to use lower MFI resins. • Increased flow length or thinner wall.
  4. Exothermic CBA mainly N2. gas pressure higher (30 bar), more power, but cells more inhomogeneous, N2 migrates slower advantage e.g. PVC Endotherm CBA CO2 and H2O, lower gas pressure (10 bar) for homogeneous cell formation and less surface effects, faster migration can be advantage for post treatment like welding, painting, coating,…Corrosion with citric acid based systems can cause problems BDUIT F Series based on food ingredients, higher gas release temperatures, Frozen Pizza
  5. High loaded Masterbatch, loading between 0,5-4% Highlight F21 and F24, case studies later
  6. Tension rods as parts
  7. H2O influence properties, degradation No big influence on mechanical properties observed Part of customer GF as nucleation points
  8. The concept of “Safe and sustainable-by-design” will determine the future of not only chemical innovation but also chemical markets. Grounded in the latest cutting-edge science, it should further the development of chemicals that are  safe for humans and environment, offer an improved environmental footprint, and deliver the expected performance and value to stakeholders throughout the value chain.
