ABSTRACT
Till date we have seen many new technologies but Augmented Reality is a pretty new
to us and everybody. This research paper will give you a much better idea about Augmented
Reality and how it can be implemented into different devices .This paper will also help you to
know and understand different augmented reality based services. Augmented Reality is
complex to implement into mobile phone but taking into consideration the use of GPS, we
can broadcast live experience to the user with the help of Augmented views. The
Development of Augmented Reality particularly is done on two platforms Mac and Android.
Creating Android application will help the researchers to explore topic while going through
this technology. This technology will help us to map 3D objects over a 2D map. Also
Augmented Reality can be used to make Virtual Guides as well as Virtual Objects for people
in different areas. This research paper will explain how Augmented Reality Technology can
be used for Location Based Services. Location Based Services are those services which guide
users based on Location and guidance will be with the help of Augmented View or 3D
models as well. Along with 3D models we can include services like Alarming and Profiling
into it.
Keywords: Augmented Reality, Mobile Device, Location Based Services, Tracking.
I. INTRODUCTION
The use of GPS started in early 90’s but to make these services more attractive we add
up augmented reality and gps together. This will take place with the new technology called
Location Based Augmented Reality. Augmented Reality is technology which provides us a
greater view of an object. That object could be building, machine parts, virtual humans,
planets etc. The word Augment means greater or detailed view. AR of an object will produce
a detailed view. AR can be implemented for multiple objects on multiple platform. With the

help of AR we can generate actual view of real world and we can map that view into
electronic display. We would like to use location services to help user to provide location
based services as alarms, profiling, searching nearby restaurants from its current place.
II. HISTORY
AR technology is the newest has its roots in computer interface research in the early
days of computer science. Many of the main concepts of AR have been familiar in movies
and science fiction at least as far back as movies like The Terminator (1984) and RoboCop
(1987). Both movies feature cyborg characters whose views of the world are augmented by a
steady stream of annotations and graphical overlays in their vision systems. Practical systems
using AR as it’s currently viewed began to be developed in the next decade. The term
augmented reality was introduced in 1990 by Tom Caudell, a researcher at The Boeing
Company. Throughout the early and mid 1990s, Caudell and his colleagues at Boeing worked
on developing head-mounted display systems to enable engineers to assemble complex wire
bundles using digital, AR diagrams superimposed on a board over which the wiring would be
arranged. Because they made the wiring diagrams virtual, the previous system of using
numerous unwieldy printed boards was greatly simplified.
III. FUNCTIONALITY
Functionality of our product is all the operations which can be performed as per the
users requirement. There are very few products which can perform all the operations in single
product. Our product give the facility of performing multiple operations. Overall there are
five product functionalities. This application will run in background process and also it will
have the auto start functionality. As our product is location based we will make the use of
GPS and Google maps.
IV. TRACKING
For the purpose of tracking we are going to make the use of GPS which is used
worldwide. To find the exact location we need appropriate tracking of the locations. We will
make the use of longitude and latitude API to add the location. With the help of these API’s
we will get the accurate position tracking, we will get the precision of tracking positions from
millimeters to meters. In our project framework design is based upon XML. This will give
the exact location on map which is obligatory and will show the desired building’s 3D view
on the map.
The augmented view of the place will be obtained and user can see the place on the
map. This will help to promote the advertisements and hotels can show the services and menu
card’s.
V. PROFILING
We would like to add additional operation as profiling in our product. Profile of
mobile handsets is like configuration parameters for so many things. Some of the examples of
profiles are office, silent, outdoor etc. Now people use these profiles as per their schedule but
they need to update it after their action is over. It means that profiles cannot update by it. So

we propose applications which will automatically switching profiles as per user location. The
application also enables the user both to visualize virtual objects in the camera image and to
localize the user in a familiar environment.
VI. AUGMENTED VIEW
In genral augmented reality (AR) is known as a innovation that shows cluster of
actual /real time mixing of auto generated content with real time broadcasting. Eventually,
Augmented Reality is far different than virtual reality (VR) in which Virtual Reality thinks of
creating whole new environment whereas AR utilizes various Hard Component technologies
for the generation of view called as Augmented View..
The word augmented means greater or larger. This means augmented view will
provide us a greater and detailed view of any object. Augmented view of an object can be
useful for collecting information of that object also it may help in identifying the places for
unknown people.
Augmented view is a type of 3-Dimensional View and object can be seen from any
point or direction. Augmented view will provide accurate as well as detailed isometric model.
Isometric 3-Dimensional view generated from 2-dimensional view.
VII. PROTOTYPING
The term Prototyping means working demonstrations of computers. Prototyping
coupled with pioneering hardware constructions. Before manufacturing and mass-producing a
new invention, it is desirable and often necessary to have a working implementation, however
crude, to demonstrate it. Products from mobile phones to automobiles go through a
prototyping step and demonstrate technical features. In electronics, prototyping by means of a
temporary prototyping board enables the circuit designer to set up a working circuit for
testing without having to waste materials by soldering a permanent circuit prematurely. The
same principles are becoming increasingly true of software. Many people who are not
proficient programmers however have fascinating and ground-breaking ideas for software
prototyping tools such as the Processing programming environment were created for such
people. Just as an architect can archetype a device in order to seek funding and one day
accumulate production, a designer can prototype an application or software environment that
can later be implemented competently in a more robust or faster language.
VIII. FUTURE SCOPE
We will identify the terrorist places and will check the information of the atom-bombs
and the configuration. For implementing the above technology first we are implementing the
product called location based augmented reality.
With the help of augmented reality further we will be able to check the configuration
of the elements of fruits. We will get to know if there is any bomb placed in the fruit too, as it
will show the total information of the fruit as in how much water is present in it and what are
the vitamins we are going to obtain from it. This is the main reason we have selected the
topic location based augmented reality.

IX. CONCLUSIONS
Thus from above reading we can conclude that AR is technique that uses both
Hardware as well as Software techniques for generation of Augmented view which are much
different than the view in Virtual Reality.
Generating Augmented view can be very helpful in areas like Education, Mobile Tech.
and Tourism.
